Infertility

Our IVF Cycle is officially canceled..

Welp, that's that. had my 3rd monitoring appointment today and my follicles are so spaced out in size. I have one at 19, two at like 14-15, and the rest below 10. Basically we have a chance of at MAX getting 3 eggs, that's assuming there are eggs in those follicles..So we were told we could convert to IUI, but basically we both agreed its a waste of more time and money with my DH's MFI being so severe...and even the IVF coordinator told us shes has yet to see a women in her clinic convert from an IVF cycle to IUI and get pregnant.. So heck, with that..why would we want to even bother? I know we could have still moved forward with IVF and maybe got a few eggs...but I'm 28, I should be able to get more! and basically this whole cycle I responded slowly. We tried to jack our meds up midway but I think by that point it was too late and only widened the gap between the lead follicle and the rest. And I'm sorry, with all this money on the line, I'd rather hold off and only have to pay for new meds and try to get way more eggs in another cycle as opposed to pushing on, loosing every dime, and barely have anything or nothing to work with. Basically this cycle has had a bad aura around it since my first monitoring appointment when we started seeing this...SO I'm very disappointed. I have to go back to my boss AGAIN and explain that I'll be needing more random time off. The things we do for the chance to have a future with a baby in it.. Start Provera tonight....ugh

Re: Our IVF Cycle is officially canceled..

  • ((hugs)) It sucks, but I think you're making the right call in cancelling. Like you said better to wait and try to get more eggs. Did they mention anything about a different protocol for your next attempt?

  • We haven't gotten that far yet. I think she could tell I was upset since I broke down and sobbed in her office...We'll blame it on the hormones. But I igure w'ell do similar, antagonist, and start with higher doses. I had three doses before my first monitoring appt where we saw things not developing that quickly.. I feel like those 3 days were wasted. So I'm hoping if we start with the higher doses on day one, that'll help.. at least it better,

  • I am so sorry to hear this!!!  Hopefully this was a good learning experience & you will go into this IVF cycle with a better idea of what you need/what you'll respond to.  GL!!

    My TTC Journey:
Dx: Hypothalamic amenorrhea / mild PCOS (Pretty much a hormone/ovulatory disorder)
Progesterone to induce period w/ the goal of Clomid - never got period (September 2011). Referred to RE.
Femera - never responded to the meds (December 2011)
Clomid with TI - BFN (February 2012)
    Injectables (Menopur) - hyperstimulated/canceled (March 2012)
Injectables #2 (Menopur) with TI- BFN (May 2012)
IVF - OHSS (transfer canceled), but 11 frozen! (June 1012)
    FET - 1 transferred on 8/09/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 350.3; Beta#2: 365; Beta#3: 157. Biochemical pregnancy.
    FET # 2 - 1 transferred on 11/01/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 337; Beta#2: 769. BFP!!! 1st ultrasound 11/28/12 showed heartbeat, but measuring 5 days behind. 2nd ultrasound 12/05/12 - miscarriage.
    FET # 3 - 1 transferred on 1/24/13. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): BFN.
    FET # 4 - 2 transferred on 3/21/13.  Bet #1 (11dp5dt): 660; Beta#2: 1,300.  Miscarried at home @ 6 weeks.

    FET # 5 - 2 transferred on 7/12/13.  Beta #1 (10dp6dt): BFN.
Attempted an IUI in late August 2013, but didn't respond well.
IVF #2 with PGS - Stims started 10/28 with retrieval on 11/11.  Of 14 mature eggs, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to Day 5 & 1 made it to Day 6. We did PGS on the Day 5 embryos, and 3 of 4 were normal. Had ET on 11/17. Beta #1 (8dp6dt): 203. Beta #2 (10dp6dt): 618. We since had two ultrasounds & on 12/19, our RE released us to the OB.  On 1/02/14, we had our first ultrasound with the OB where we heard the heartbeat.  We are so thankful for the blessing & crossing every finger & toe for a healthy & successful pregnancy.

  • I'm so sorry. That happened to me in my first cycle, and I have to say, even though it hurt to cancel, in the end, it was the right decision and our next cycle with the meds adjusted, they were able to get 20 eggs, 18 of which were mature. (The first cycle, I only had 3 follicles, told we would be lucky to get one egg, maybe 2.) (((hugs))), I think you made the right choice. Hang in there, I'm sure your next cycle will be much better.
  • I'm so sorry you had to cancel. I hope they can get a better mix of meds for you and that next time is better.

  • What a bummer! I'm so sorry. It sucks so bad, but you made the right decision. Hopefully they learned what they have to do for you next time to get a better response. Unfortunately, the first round often ends up being a trial run to see how your body responds. For my first ivf, i was on the lowest doses of meds on Antagonist, and now i am on a higher dose on long lupron and getting much better results. Hang in there!

That sucks. I'm so sorry. I would make the same call you're making if I were in your shoes. Hopefully for your next cycle you can get a ton of follies.

  • I'm so very sorry. I remember how disappointing it was to have a canceled cycle. You are right that at your age you should have a better response. Is the doctor recommending another protocol? There should be something they could suggest to avoid getting a lead follicle like that.

Take care. I hope you find your success very soon!
