Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Repost from 3-6 month: Throat noise question

Ok - tell me if you've had a similar experience...LO has been making this weird throat noise when she breaths sometimes.  Like she's closing off her throat.  But it only happens sometimes, like when she's crying or laughing.  Like right now she is happy as a clam in her exer-saucer, and keeps making this noise with a huge grin on her face.

So do you think I should be concerned?  Or do you think she's just experimenting with different sounds?  I'm a dunce because she her had 6 month check-up on Tuesday and I forgot to ask (had other things to ask about).  But I'm pretty certain they listened to her breathe with the stethoscope (they usually do, right??)

We're going back in a few weeks for her next round of flu shot, so I could ask then, just don't want to put it off too long if it could be serious....

Oh yeah, DH and my parents think it's just noise...thoughts??

  • My friend's LO did something similar so she took her to the doctor...turns out it was just her experimenting with sounds.  That's probably what your LO is doing too, but I'm paranoid so I'd probably take her in just for peace of mind.

    Good luck :)

  • DD does this also, she thinks its so funny and clearly does it for attention.  She copied it from a kid at daycare. I'm not worried.

  • Is it like a quick gasp in?  DD LOVES making this noise.  Freaks me out, but she is very obviously not in distress, just experimenting.

  • DD literally growls. She'll go from a sweet, clear, high-pitched voice to a gremlin growl. It weirded me out at first, but after googling "my baby growls" and reading how common it is, I relaxed.

    Just experimenting and learning!
