Too long to wait!!

Here in the uk the first scan isnt until 12weeks so thats the first point you would find out if theres a problem like lack of heart beat or blighted ovum... Im only 6weeks an so freaked out!! Esp as altho i tested positive for preg i have no symptoms like nausea etc!!

Anybody else feel like this??

Re: Too long to wait!!

  • It's actually more common here to not get an u/s until 20w. It doesn't seem like that's the case on the bump though.

  • Do you guys have a universal healthcare system over there? Like Canada? That sucks and I am sorry you have to wait! I am def not a fan of those types of healthcare systems.

That being said, there is a Doppler you can buy on amazon and you can start checking for the heartbeat at 9weeks that will def help you feel more at ease.

Yeah def look into the Doppler. It will be so reassuring! It's not that expensive either!

You should be able to hear the HB at 9 weeks with the doppler?  That would be cool!  For the price, I just might have to get one.

  • I'm starting to feel like it's better to wait. I had an early dating u/s because I wasn't sure of my LMP (this was a surprise pregnancy) and I'm also older,so I think they tend to do these as an early precaution. Unfortunately, all it has done is leave me even more stressed and unsure. I do think I ovulate very late, but I thought I was at least a week ahead of where they thought I was based on the fact that we only saw a gestational sac and no fetal pole. They didn't seem worried at all and said it was very normal, but I just feel like something has to be wrong (my LMP was 11/30 and BFP was 1/1). Now I have to wait to go back in a couple of weeks after being so excited for today. Ugh. So maybe it's better to have the date a little farther out so you can get accurate more information?

  • I have to wait until 10 weeks. I'm only 4 weeks but I haven't had any symptoms either. Is this something to be concerned about??

Lack of symptoms is nothing to be concerned about. Every pregnancy if different. Enjoy the lack of symptoms for now.

It is still the norm at my OB office, however, I know that for people who've had losses, he will let us have one at 6-7 weeks to help keep us calm!

  • I'm in Canada and I just found out things have changed since my DD. I have to wait till 18 weeks for ultrasound. Last time I had one at 7 weeks, 12 and then 20. I'm worried that I won't hear or see the heart beat for so long. I'm chunky so they may not even hear it on the Doppler for a while. Heres to the next few weeks flying by!!

Where are you in Canada? I'm in Ontario, and I have a dating scan on Monday (could of had it this week, but I wanted to wait a bit longer so I had more chance of hearing the heartbeat), somtimes I think it depends on the doctor.

Not always. If you have an anterior placenta you might now. I did and my very experienced OB had a hard time finding my son's at 12 weeks. I personally wouldn't rely on this because if you don't find it it might freak you out more

  • I'm in Ontario too but my first U/S won't be until 18 weeks.  What's the difference between a dating scan and an ultrasound?

  • i got my first TUS at 6 weeks. the baby's size tells its 5weeks 6 days. there is a heartbeat but its a slow cardiac activity, only 89 beats per minute. it is so far from the average beats per min of 100 to 150... im not experiencing any harsh symptoms like nausea and vomitting, my boobs doesnt even hurt.
  • I'm also in Ontario and I was in almost immediately to see my Dr for bloodwork. I went in two times within a week to make sure the hormones were elevating. My first prenatal appointment is on Feb 4 which either puts me at 7 weeks 4 days or 8 weeks 4 days. I believe when I see my Dr then we'll set up an appointment for an ultrasound which shouldn't be very long after.
