Hey- what are the big changes (developmental) you can see from lets say early 2 yr old to an almost 3 yr old? Besides verbal communication- are they less impulsive? Are they able to hold thier attention a lot longer?
Definitely the biggest change is the verbal explosion. DS never stops talking. A big one I see, and having a new sibling may help this, is empathy. If someone is sad, he'll give them a hug. He tells his sister, "It's ok, baby girl, it's ok." We're working on potty training. He can count and knows most of his alphabet. He sings a lot of songs. He knows his shapes. He is just a lot of fun right now.
DS may be behind in this regard, but his attention span is as short as ever. We bought him a leap pad for Christmas, and it is the only thing that holds his attention for more than a few minutes. We can't even get through a game of candyland before he's done.
As pps said - major inrease in speach and comprehension. Idk about everyone else but dd has the shortest attention span and other times shes very focused. She can sit and watch an entire disney movie but other times she will get bored with something and be all over the place. Also more active physically. Dd jumps and dances, she can also stand on one foot - dr said thats a 4 year old thing but wanted to see if she could do it now. Dd has always been a little above avg but i feel like most kids are able to stand on one foot at 3. Most of dds friends can.
They can definitely focus on one activity for longer. I'd say besides the increase in verbal skills, socially the change is huge too. DD2 is 2.5 years and now plays very interactively with her sister. She has much more complex conversations, which is just as much social awareness as it is verbal. Her memory has gotten much better. She will randomly start talking to me about something she did a week ago or two weeks ago. I think they just start to gain so much more awareness of how they fit into the world.
