LO just got out of PICU diagnosed with acid reflux. Anyone else? It seems like it barely helps. I know they told us it would take a couple of days to get in her system, but we're going on 4 days and she still throws up. Any feeding near the time her dose is due is garenteed is come back up. Does this get better?
Re: Does your LO take acid reflux meds?
Reflux meds alone didn't help with the vomiting. I know it's slightly controversial but we did the whole rice cereal in the bottle during feedings and it made the projectile vomiting stop. He still vomit to a degree but not the whole projectile vomiting the majority of the feeding.
As pp said reflux mess do NOT stop the vomiting, they just stop the production of acid so the vomiting doesn't burn. Thickened formula is usually the first step in the maintenance of acid reflux. We used enfamil AR for a while but it was really constipating And then regular enfamil with oatmeal added. The simply thick was just too hard on his gut.
We didn't see any noticeable difference from acid reflux meds after months of use, so we went against our doctors' advice and stopped giving them to our toddler. Didn't make a difference, so why give him more meds than he needs?
How old is your little one? When we cut back on formula and started giving him more real food, we started seeing less vomit.
Also, when we mixed his formula, we would stir in a half teaspoon of maalox to dissipate all the bubbles. Seemed to help a bit.
