Special Needs

I think we just saw our first seizure

We were all eating dinner with my parents and DS1 was sitting in a booster seat at the table.  We were all doing fine and I was telling my dad to see how bad of a haircut DS1 had gotten earlier.  I called DS1's name to get him to turn my way, instead of looking at DH.  He did not respond.  His head was turned left, his hands were on his chest gripping his sweatshirt jacket zipper tightly and his feet were kicking rhythimcally (which he does occassionally because it makes the chair shake).

It lasted about 30 seconds at which point I had taken him out of the booster seat and i was holding him up on my shoulder.  He just laid there for like 5 minutes, my mom even said "it looks like he's going to fall asleep".  After about 5 minutes he just woke up and was back to himself.

    Yikes.

How's he feeling now? How's him mom doing?

He seemed fine the rest of the evening.  He had missed his nap and was really tired, which may have been enough to trigger a seizure.  Unfortunately with his rare diagnosis there is the "possibility" of seizures so it wasn't completely unexpected but we truly hoped we would never see it.

  • It can be a very scary thing... Make sure though that you write this down because if it starts to become more frequent then you are gonna wanna talk to the dr. Good luck and hopefully he wont have any more! I have been dealing with them in my youngest daughter for 2.5 years now... She just came off medicine for them in July and has been seizure free!

  • It is scary, and it's kind of so quick but so long at the same time.  I would just let the neuro know (we just send an email since it happens so rarely in P) and that's about it.

  • Hugs. Left Hug Seizures are a tough thing to watch.

Sir I just started having them about a month ago and we have been struggling to control them since then. The best advice that I received is to video anything that I think is seizure related and email it to neuro. So, keep your cell phone handy and video him if it happens again.
