Is Medicaid eligibility based on income??? Other than the LISS grant what other agencies/programs are there to help with funding for therapies?? I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Our insurance is through Hopkins which only pays for 45 therapy sessions a year. Landon has at least 100 private therapy session a year. Because of hubs salary we are not eligible for many of the programs that are offered.
Re: Maryland Moms
I am not sure about this. A friend of mine was just at the social security office trying to get both of her SN kids benefits. They denied, of course. The case worker there suggested that she first try and get them on medicaid and then SS would be easier to get. He also mentioned that "income and resources" are considered for SSI. She was asked what her average monthly checking account balance was. He also led her to believe that her and her husbands 401k accounts are considered "resources". This seems totally wrong to me. Expecting parents to drain their retirement, which would then make both of them dependent on SSI in the future, seems totally wack to me.
We haven't pursued SSI or Medicaid yet, because our insurance is pretty awesome, butI am interested in what you find out.....
we are in the same exact boat (exact, we have Hopkins insurance too). everything besides LISS is income based. we have tried to figure out how we could get any sort of help but because we both work, own our home, etc it's basically impossible. we can't even get REM. we can't get a waiver because our son isn't medically fragile "enough". i honestly have come this close to just going and applying for it myself but then got scared about the whole medicaid fraud/jail thing. lol
if you find something out, please share. and hopkins insurance is totally screwing us this year with a new deductible.
Not sure if you've already looked into this, or if possibly the waiting list is just really long, but it does look like Maryland has a medicaid waiver that allows children to participate as well.

Waivers are different than regular medicaid in that they go by the child's income not the parents.
Have you already tried to get a waiver? It would give you secondary insurance so as long as medicaid approved therapy x times per week every month, once primary stopped paying, secondary would pick it up.
i was told we did not qualify for a model waiver...children who get the model waiver need to be technology dependent and needs hospital/nursing home type care. plus only a certain number of kids can be on the waiver at a time.
this sucks...i *** about this at least once a week.
