I'm am struggling giving up my morning coffee. I've cut it down to one cup in the morning, and I thought that was okay. But now I am reading all kinds of things from 1 cup is okay, and you should have none at all! What about caffeine-free coffee and soda? Does anyone have any advice or guidance from their doctor?

Re: So what's the real story with caffeine?
I actually switched to half caff so I can have two and sometimes three cups a day. I did the same with my last pg and had no issues.

My doc is on the super conservative side, no caffeine, no decaf. Fertility clinics. The reasoning being that some caffeine can be harmful and with decaf they use chemicals to remove the caffeine. I've always been on the side of moderation personally where a cup or won't hurt but I'm following doctor's orders. :-(

I will allow myself 1-2 a day...more on special occasions or when I'm working on a project.
i had a super old school doc with my daughter, he told me the most important thing is to listen to your body, if you want to drink a cup of coffee, or eat a hot dog, or dye your hair, then do it, the key is moderation and listening to your body, if you do something and you feels sick, stop doing it or dont do it again. i didnt really cut out anything with my daughter and shes just fine
(obviously besides the dont drink or do drugs thing!! lol).... all sorts of sites/docs/people will tell you a million things, most importantly listen to your body, it speaks very loudly
This- My OB says 200mg (basically two cups of coffee) remember caffeine is in other things (like chocolate) I have been doing half caff too

What I've read is that you should limit it, not that you have to completely avoid it. The amount varies depending on the source, though. The absolute highest I've seen is 300mg of caffeine per day. Here's a link that shows you how much caffeine is in a lot of products.

Coffee is generally worse than tea or soda. Chocolate can actually have a surprising amount of caffeine (at my prenatal class last time the nurse told us we could have 7 cans of Coke or 40g of chocolate in a day).

I am done with the caffeine drinks. I have switched my coffee to decaf. However, I will allow myself to have green tea every once in awhile.
I cut out caffeine with my DD. My thought is, caffeine is addicting to an adult, so why wouldn't be addicting for a baby.

It's a personal choice, but I choose not to drink caffeine throughout my pregnancy. I didn't like coffee until after my first kid was born, and now I miss it's helpfulness in my regularity.
But all in moderation, and I think most docs are okay with 1 cup of Joe a day.
