How long did you stay in the hospital after a c-section? I had an emergency C with DD, and was in the hospital for 4 days, and if I hadn't whined to my OB, she would have had me stay another day! She checked my staples on the 4th day, and said "they look good, I'll check them again tomorrow" and I was like, "TOMORROW!!??" and she said, "Oh, you want to go home today? I'll go get the staple remover and we'll release you."
I guess maybe because it was not planned, I had a rough time in the hospital, I was in so much pain, uncomfortable, and just wanted to go home. I'd like to minimize my hospital stay this time, too, but what is average? What should I plan for? I'll ask my OB at my next appointment, obviously, but just I just wanted to get a feel for what other people have experienced.
Re: How long is the hospital stay?
I had a scheduled CS because DD was breech. I had her Tuesday morning and left Friday afternoon so, 4 days and 3 nights. At my hospital, that's pretty standard. I also had stitches that dissolve so as long as there was no infection, they didn't worry about that. My stipulation for leaving was that I could use the bathroom and walk the hallways.
As much as being in the hospital can suck, take advantage of the few days you have lots and lots of help from the nurses! Try not to look at it as such a bad thing. Hopefully it'll be better this time!
I'm hoping it's better just for the fact that it's scheduled and I can actually plan for it!
What? Where? I was told 48 for a C/S. I go in on a Thursday and will be released Saturday if everyone is healthy. I had an emergency C/S with my son and was in for 4 days due to a high fever and BP but I don't think that's "normal".
They wanted me to stay 4 nights, but agreed to three. I DS was born at 730 am, so it felt WAY too long. I will be asking to be released after 2 nights if possible this next time. It was pure torture.
Eta: 4 days is standard here in a large city in NC. We have two major hospital systems and 4 nights (5 days) is what they want, even without complications. I had a planned, uncomplicated CS and had to beg for only 3 nights. I wasn't even using pain medication the last 24 hours, but for some reason they want you to stay longer?

Am I the only one that LIKED staying in the hospital??
They were ready to release me on day three and I asked to stay one more night. (My insurance covers 4 nights) I delivered at 3:30am on Thursday and left on Monday...but like I said they told me on Sunday I could go. I didn't have any complications with my surgery as well and it was also unplanned.
I liked having the nurses there to help me and I was actually really comfy in that bed at night. If I have a C/S with my next one I plan on staying the full 4 nights again.

With my first I delievered Tuesday morning and left Friday morning. I was pretty much there for the week though since I went into labor Monday evening.
This time my doctor has said that staying 2 nights is fine (provided nothing goes wrong of course). My RCS is 7:30 Monday morning and I'm hoping to leave Wednesday morning.
My Profile
I went in around 8am on a Sunday and left around noon that Wednesday. While I was ready to leave by Tuesday, looking back, I plan to stay all 4 days again, because it's one less day at home, alone, with a baby that wakes up at all hours, with no help.
It'll be a little harder, and I will feel a bit selfish, since we have DD, but I think I'll manage to get past that for a little extra sleep before tackling a newborn and toddler together head-on.

That's crazy! I live in Seattle so I guess it varies state to state? Like a PP said though...I wouldn't mind staying in the hospital more than 2 nights. It seems a little rushed to me and I was honestly surprised that they would let me leave so soon. We will see what happens in reality though. Only 2 more weeks!!
Both c/s I was in the hospital for 48 hours.
Tuesday - Thursday with the first and Thursday - Saturday with the second.

An unplanned CS with DS.
Admitted in labour late saturday night, CS at 9am sunday morning.
Allowed home late thursday afternoon.
They almost wanted to keep us another day as DS had lost alot of weight and feeding hadn?t been established. We compromised so were allowed home, but we brought DS back in for a checkup 2 days later.
