Just out of curiosity, how much would (or did) you pay for a good umbrella stroller? I don't even know why I was looking (since I'm not really in the market for a single stroller right now), but the one I was looking at cost $100.
As background, my umbrella stroller was the $20 BRU one, and I got it with a coupon. It *works* for us, but kind of stinks that there's no basket and it doesn't recline or anything. I think I got it solely for trips to the pool so I didn't have to worry about getting chlorinated water on my regular stroller. Then it became my regular stroller since it was always in my car.
Again, I'm not actually shopping for one now - just curious, and wondering if it is actually worth it to buy the pricier ones. I might get one after LO2 is bigger and DS is better at walking around without me using a death-grip on his hand (ie, not throwing fits and falling to his knees in the middle of the parking lot for whatever reason he does that).
Re: Stroller question
I don't even have an umbrella stroller, to be honest. I just have my regular stroller in the trunk of the car and that's what I use. It's a cheapo jogging stroller that my hubs got on sale for $99 and it works really well.
With that said, I don't think $100 is too much for your everyday stroller - which would seem to be the case for you.
All of this. I might have sprung for a nice umbrella stroller if we hadn't received a $250 travel system which included the stroller. But we just lug around the travel one, which isn't that big of a deal.
I was actually considering selling our travel system stroller on Craigs List and putting the money towards a nicer umbrella, until we decided to have a 2nd baby instead. Now I'm looking at upgrading to a double stroller.
The thought of a double stroller kind of intimidates me - they just seem so big! That being said, that's probably the way I need to go since I plan to take walks with both kids, plus it would be nice for the zoo, etc.
I started with a large Graco stroller that was a couple of seasons old, so it was only $60. It was great, but then I rarely used it. I ended up getting a BabyTrend Expedition (just over $100, I think) so I could take walks and go jogging. It became my "regular" stroller, and I'd take it if I planned to have DS in the stroller for any length of time. It was more maneuverable than the Graco.
Thanks for the feedback!
Oh, and whoever mentioned the UppaBaby (I can't remember who mentioned - sorry) - one of my good friends had one and loved it. I used it once and wished we had had the money to invest in something like that.
I'm also nervous about a double stroller, but our travel system stroller that we already have is a beast. It has to weight at least as much as a double and it takes up my entire trunk. I go back and forth between getting a double versus wearing baby #2 while DD is in the single stroller. I'm going to have to wait and see how I feel about wearing the new baby, I didn't do it a lot with DD, but I think it will be more of a necessity this time.
Five words: Baby Jogger City Mini Double. The best invention since sliced bread. No car seat adapter, just recline the seat all the way and insert newborn. Buy the parent console attachment. Roll with it.
I went from a tandem (contour II) to this side-by-side and it saved my sanity. I HATED taking the boys out because I had the wrong stroller.
I have been stalking this exact stroller all over Craigs List. I've done a ton of reading, and this sounds like it would be the right one for our family, for a lot of reasons.
I'm not a super confident baby wearer, and while I'd like to try again, I'm thinking the summer will be a really hot time to have a baby strapped to me 24/7. Especially since we spend a lot of time outdoors at the tot lot with DD, I take her out a ton by myself. The full recline really sold me since I'm hoping (praying!) this baby is does better with napping on the go . Glad to hear an experienced mama that I trust recommends it!
We have the double city mini as well. We really like it and how compact it is.
