I hate Babies R' Us...

I just went on their site to order the conversion kit for DS's crib so I can be sure we have it and its budgetted in with the new LO on its way and....they no longer sell it.  But they still sell the crib and advertise it as a 4-in-1.  And of course the color and series is made by the manufacturer exclusively for Babies R' Us which means the crib is only a crib, not 4-in-1.  Me=pissed.  Where is everyone looking for cribs since I now refuse to buy a second one from that god forsaken place!?!  GRRR!!

Re: I hate Babies R' Us...

  • Have you tried to contact the manufacturer directly? Even though it is a BrU exclusive, they might be able to help you track down a kit.

Years ago I happened to be walking into Sears and saw their crib selection. It was actually really nice and the prices were good. I have checked out several sites but I keep coming back to theirs.

I plan to register for the crib, but I also plan to purchase the conversion kit at the same time I get the crib because the way things work in my life, they would discontinue it the following week!

  • Do you think you could move DS to a big bed and give the crib to baby?  I've heard a lot of people say they just go straight to the big bed and skip the toddler bed.....maybe also stalk eBay and Craig's list if you really need the conversion kit.....

Ditto all of this. DD went straight to a big girl bed. We never did the toddler conversion.

Also, I hate BRU too. For other reasons but it's irrelevant; we can just hate them together.

  • We bought a crib to toddler bed at Ikea for less than 150 and love it. It meets or exceeds all international safety standards, is hardwood so no teeth marks, hasn't been climbed out of yet, and small. We're pretty sure we'll be moving DS to a big bed or mattress on a floor before this LO needs a crib so we won't be purchasing a second one.

  • My plan is to put the toddler rail on DD's bed in a few months. Then over the summer, we are transitioning her to a full-size bed. I'm not about those silly twin size kid beds (just MO) and DH and I are getting a new bed so we are moving our current bed to the guest bedroom and moving that full size bed, which is actually in great shape (and happens to be the bed DD was conceived on Wink) to her room. I moved to a full-size bed when I was 3 so hopefully DD can make the transition a little earlier for the sake of not having to buy an in-between bed for her.

  • And for the record, I loathe BRU! I refuse to shop there unless they are having a mega-sale. Everyone thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread but I find that Amazon and Target are usually cheaper.

  • We got our first one on diapers.com and will probably do the same for this one.

I agree, BRU is totally overpriced. I only go there if they are having a clearance sale. I refuse to buy anything there full price.

  • We bought DS's furniture from Buy Buy Baby. We had a great experience and his crib came WITH the conversion kit. It also converts to a full-sized bed.

  • Even tho it's early been doing a lot of baby browsing since its out first. I don't like any of the cribs I have seen they all seem so low, like when baby can stand they could easily climb out. All the children I have baby sat my life the rails come up so much higher! Still on the hunt for a good one. My husband dad still has his crib from he was a baby and my mom still has mine, may break down and use one of those! But hear there is so rule about cribs and the spacing of the bars????

Are you talking about mattress height? Every crib I've seen has adjustable mattress heighth in at least three positions. When you see them at the store they are in the highest position. And yes, they have changed the regulations on spacing of rails and drop side cribs are also a no no.

I totally hate BRU as well, but was checking out the big trade event that they have going on and at the top of the screen it says that they now do price matching....so keep them in mind if you need something quick....I do think I will be trading our infant seat and high chair....seems like a good deal :)

Also about the conversion kit...I had this same issue only we had ordered it, they never called to tell us it was in and I had totally forgot about it until we went to convert DD's crib. When I originally called they said they could no longer get it, but I put my heels in the ground and didn't give up and they "magically" found one. So I would call and harass the crap out of them...

  • Went I searched online for the kit it wa no longer available and a reviewer posted that the manufacturer told her are had to go back to the retailer to get it, not them! Oh well, I think we might try to go straight to a twin and give new baby the crib. I was just hoping to give him the day bed feature first to help transition! I loathe BRU!!!!

  • We got our first one from a guy DH worked with, and it's just a crib, doesn't convert.  I think for the second we'll probably buy the $79 one from Ikea (assuming we don't just change Lily straight over to a big bed over the summer).

If you go into BRU they can possibly order it for you. I know our conversion kit can only be ordered in a BRU store, they do not offer it online. They call it a special order. I would try calling or visiting you local store before you give up hope.

  • Very overpriced. Even with their 20% off sale, I still find stuff cheaper elsewhere. Try justforkids or albeebaby or amazon. They are always cheap.
