Natural Birth

did you have a prodromal labor and still have a med-free birth?

i am shadowing a doula with a client experiencing prodromal labor this week. she (the mom) is really discouraged and i volunteered to find some success stories.

to complicate matters, she is hoping for a vbac after a scheduled c/s for breech presentation with #1.

If you have a successful med-free birth story after prodromal labor to share (or if you know of a site that contains good stories), please either post it here or email it to me: lindsey AT Sunflowershealingandwellness DOT com.

thanks!

Re: did you have a prodromal labor and still have a med-free birth?

  • My first birth experience as a doula, I was with a momma who labored for 4 days, 3 of them in hard early labor.  It wasn't a posterior baby, just her pelvis shape.  She was able to sleep in her small home bathtub, so we watched her and let her sleep as that was the only place she got rest.  Eventually, she got it done and without meds.  She was amazing and just never doubted herself at all.  When it was time to go to the hospital, she packed her bag, got in the car, and had the baby a half hour after we arrived.

  • For Ds2 and DS3 I had tons of prodromal labor. I would have hours of contractions 3 min apart of varying levels of intensity. It was kind of like my engine reving up. When labor began, my body was conditioned for the big event. It is also good opportunity to practice her visualization, breathing, etc.

  • My co-worker was in labor for approximately 52 hours and was able to successfully use Hypnobirthing to deliver a perfectly healthy baby girl.  My BFF was induced with #1 and birthed her baby without an epi.  GL to your client!

  • With every single one.  I have an irritable uterus so I had months of contractions for hours at a time less than 5 mins apart.  I got to the point where I just ignored them until they were longer than 3 or 4 hours and that's how it worked out.  It helped me ignore all the early labor and made the rest seem a lot easier for me. With my last one I was a 4.5 to 5 cms before "real" labor started and it was fast! About 4-5 hours total and we were holding our baby.

  • I'm late, but I'll email you E's birth story in case it comes in handy down the road.
