GD frustrated numbers all over the place vent

Sooooo frustrating. I feel like I'm trying so hard- food scale, measuring cups, Etc and when I think I did good and my numbers are still wacky. Dinner tonight pork chop green beans and 2/3 C rice. 2 hours post 151!! What the heck. All day my numbers were high even though I count carbs obsessively. I'm on glyburide 5mg 2x a day. Yesterday all my numbers were great. Aaaah! Dr never says much, just circles all my high numbers and glares at me over her glasses on her nose, and says I need to be more consistent.  I hate feeling like I'm hurting baby.  He should just come out, I'm almost 38 weeks. Ok thanks for letting me vent.

Re: GD frustrated numbers all over the place vent

  • I kept a food diary and had my #s written down next to what I ate. That way I could see if certain items were making me spike. I found that even if I had only 1 cup of milk as my only carb for a meal that I would spike. Rice is a hit or miss with me. Fruit makes me spike like crazy. If I hadn't done the food diary along with my #s I wouldn't have noticed it as quickly.

Also, take comfort that you ARE doing whatever you can (and more than I ever did, I scoff at food scales lol). There's only so much you can do, the hormones are what's really in control. Only in the past few weeks have I come to term with the fact that I'm not in control (and I'm a control FREAK!!!). I can count my carbs, avoid things that make me spike, take my insulin, but my hormones ultimately decide if it's a good day or bad day. They determine the insulin resistance you have and it steadily increases until 36-38 weeks. This past week was the first time we haven't gone up on my insulin. Just breathe momma, keep doing what you're doing, and don't let the doctor give you ***. You're doing the best you can!

  • According to the sheet my dietitian gave me you did eat more than a serving of rice. was it white or brown? I find that I have much more luck eating brown rice than white. (Lower GI) Was your Pork chop coated in anything? even a dusting of AP flour will spike me too. and as PP stated: This whole GD thing is completely hormonal. your body can change day to day. it took mine about 2 weeks to regulate, even eating an absolute minimum of carbs (I'm talking 30-40 a day) As long as you're  actively trying to manage it, I would try not to get too discouraged.

  • Thanks for the encouragement. Always feels good to get support from others who are going thru the same thing. I absolutely keep a food diary, I can eat the same exact thing and can get totally different numbers which is why it's frustrating. My info says 1/3 C rice is 1carb serving and I had 2/3 so 2 carb servings, even factoring in possibility of green bean carb and an uncoated pork chop still has me well within my allotted 4 carbs at dinner.

Oh welll i'lll just keep chugging along and no more rice I guess. Got checked  and only 1cm so I guess he's still enjoying his time inside.
