High-Risk Pregnancy

Preterm Labour and Delivery

(this will be posted in my DDC and high risk board

Some of you know my story... I lost a DD at 20 wks after I PPROM'd.. Had 2 m/c.. then found out I was pregnant again... at 18wks it was discovered I was 3cm dilated with waters bulging... an emergency cerclage was placed and I lasted for 10wks on bed rest.. i was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix from a birth trauma during DS's birth (which also left him in the NICU for 8wks)

On Monday morning (28wks to the day) I noticed the baby had dropped but wasn't concerned until around 1pm when I started to feel pressure.. it constantly felt like I had to pee but couldn't.. I noticed the pressure was rhythmic and got concerned.. my biggest worry was tearing through the cerclage.. I figured they would remove it and put me on HBR... I didn't think it was labour as although uncomfortable, it didn't feel anything like either of my previous 2 labours.. I went to L+D just to be safe..

By 4pm I was being given steroids and told that they no longer give magnesium sulfate to delay labour but that it helps babies neurologically so they started me on that..when they removed my stitch I went immediately to 4cm but it took about 4hrs to get to 5cm. Within a couple hours I was fully dilated but had to be moved to an OR since so many Drs etc had to be in the room..I managed the labour well and without medication and desperately wanted a VBAC. I had had to fight for even a chance at one..I'm glad that I did but I likely would not be able to vaginally deliver a full term baby. Delivery took about 2hrs mostly because my contractions had become irregular.. it was like straight out of a movie- the screaming and swearing lol... not like any birth I've seen.. (all the Drs are in disagreement as to whether I should attempt a fullterm VBAC- I'll likely need a pre-pregnancy pelvic scan to figure all that out)

He was born at 1:27am. Officially making it 28w1d.. he was 2lb 14oz.. he needed to be intubated- which he immediately tore out.. eventually we heard the tiniest mew.. within 12 hours he was switched to the CPAP and is holding on strong.. he's still nameless though lol... we have a long journey ahead of us.... thanks for the support and kind words....

off to the preemie boards I go... but I'll be back to check on you all :)
