Whoever is on first trimester probably saw my post there a few days ago about contracting the flu. Great advice from everyone who responded! Basically, DH got the flu and I got a somewhat milder (but still awful) case of it a few days later. I got my shot and he did not.
Sure enough, the OB office said they could not even give me advice on what to do because they've never seen me before. So I've been taking tylenol to keep my fever down, and nothing else for the other symptoms.
Still, it totally sucks. Last night I was in bed for 9 hours (went to bed just a little bit after DS) but was asleep for only 5 because I couldn't get my fever down for the first 4 hours and was very uncomfortable. I hate how you need sleep when sick & pregnant but symptoms often keep you from getting it! Our saving grace is that DS has not yet gotten sick, so he's been going to daycare so DH and I can mope around at home. We are both so behind on work, too. :-(
It also obviously adds to the anxiety of a new pregnancy. Luckily I'm only 18 days of gestation now, though, so not yet to the "neural tube" stage (two days from now for a week) when fevers are really, really bad for the embryo.
Anyone else sick on top of all of your other pregnancy symptoms? And how much does it suck you can't even take many of the meds?
Re: flu, mainly a vent, sorry
I am so sick started Monday with sore throat that is always how it starts w me. I went to the walk in clinic tue just to make sure all ok since 6 weeks this week. I have had the flu shot also my students have been so sick 1 st grade some out for a week.
I have had no MS except bloating. Today I called out sick. I could hardly get out of bed headach achy head congestion sneezing hot cold. I was neg for strep and the flu but I have 12 hour days so I think I am burning myself out.
I just took some benedryl since I am having a hard time sleeping w not being able to breath sneezing and runny nose. I feel you. I am miserable!!!
yuck, I hate that -- not being able to breathe but not being able to take hardly anything!
argh, that sucks!! I was in grad school when pg with DS and I didn't even get sick in the first trimester but from m/s and everything that the first trimester gives you I I went from being ahead on my dissertation to being behind. Everything still worked out on time in the end but I was working frantically/stressed up to my defense, and still just coming out of the first trimester. It was not a great time. I hope that you'll have everything under control soon! Grad school is tough!
