Allergy to Cow's Milk?

My twins started on WCM at 12 months old and ended up getting diarrhea and horrible diaper rashes so we had to put them back on formula and then eventually soy milk.  At about 13 months we attempted WCM again to rule it out and had same reaction.  Fast forward 5 months to 18 months now.  Per our pedi we tried the WCM again, slowly transitioning from the soy milk.  6 days into the transition, one of my twins gets a raised bright red rash on the back of his neck, head, shoulder.  It's like a burn almost with some bumps here and there.  Plus they are both starting that loose stool and getting diaper rashes again like last time.

I've stopped the WCM for now and put them back on 100% soy milk..  We see the pedi on Friday.  I was wondering if anyone else has some experience on this.  From what I've read it sounds like a milk allergy.  They can tolerate other dairy just fine though.  Did your LO eventually out grow it?

Re: Allergy to Cow's Milk?

  • Sorry it's been so back and forth.  It can be frustrating!  My son is just over 2 now and we've been greenlighted to try small amounts of WCM now.  He loves his soy though so we're in no rush.  He does (now) tolerate all other dairy just fine.  Is the rash you're seeing like eczema and not hives?  Yes, it's possible they still have a allergy to it.  Will your pedi run bloodwork?  That's how we knew (in addition to tolerating the other dairy products) that we should try WCM now.  We watched the numbers decrease on his bloodwork.  All the best!

It's not hives, more like ezcema I guess.  Big splotchy raised areas.  Looks much better today though.  I'm going to ask about the blood work.  Thanks for your response!
