Travel Impact Sperm Count?

I'm going in for an IUI at the end of the month (assuming eggiest are there!) and my husband would prefer to create his ::clears throat:: SPECIMEN at home.  The dr is okay with this, but a girlfriend mentioned it may reduce sperm count?  Anyone have any knowledge of this?  Thanks ladies!!!

Re: Travel Impact Sperm Count?

  • Our said as long as the sample makes it there within 30-40 minutes it's fine. When we gave a sample to my OB/GYN, she told us to keep the sample warm while it was being transferred. So everytime he does a sample at home now I stick it in my jeans pocket or under my coat. Probably silly but I do!

  • My DH always did his at home for our IUIs. As long as you make it to the clinic within their timeframe it does not matter where he does it. I always opted for him to do it at home because I figured there would be less performance anxiety for him. This is our first round of IVF and he had to do it in the office yesterday and he did say it was much more difficult than he had anticipated because it felt so clinical. If your DH is more comfortable at home and you can make it in in time, go for it.
Me: 33, Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, DOR (AMH .35), DH: 38, Borderline low morph

5/11- Operative Hysteroscopy to remove uterine septum
    6/11- IUI #3 Menopur = BFP, 8/11 missed mc at 11 weeks, D&C
1/12- Lap and Operative Hysteroscopy to remove uterine septum (again) & scar tissue
2/12- Stint Removal, 3/12 repeat SHG and HSG- showed scar tissue blocking right tube
4/12- Operative hysteroscopy (again), RE said he can now see right tube (yay!)
5/12- Stint removal, 6/12 repeat SHG and HSG-both tubes are open!
    8/12- IUI #4 Bravelle = BFN
    9/12-IUI #5 Bravelle = BFN

  • Not if you get to the clinic within their time frame and keep the *sample* warm. We always put it in a bag next to a rubber bottle filled with lukewarm water to keep the temperature stable. DH did it 3 times at home and one time in the clinic for ER. He hated doing it in the clinic and that was also the worst sample of the four.

  • That's what my bra is for!  I always put the cup there when delivering for DH so it stays at body temp.  He always does them at home and then I deliver.

yup...even DH's urologist told me to snuggle the sample between the boobages to keep them body temp. Good luck!
