Pregnant after 35

Is it ok for me to ask an IVF question?

I know this is mostly a ttc question but hoping maybe one of u had a similiar experience and are now pregnant. My friend is slotted for egg retrieval on Friday. Right now her eggs are only 1316 though, there is still time for them to get big enough right? Also her estrogen is at 3500 and if she goes above 4000 they will retrieve the eggs fertilize but won't implant them until her estrogen comes down. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does the estrogen just keep raising until retrieval? They had her stop one estrogen pill. Thoughts from those who are experts with this stuff?

Re: Is it ok for me to ask an IVF question?

  • Darn mobile. 13 thru 16. And retrieve the eggs and fertilize them

  • Do you know when they are triggering her?  If they trigger her now, the 16's may end up being mature, not sure about the 13. My RE would trigger me closer to 18-20.  She does run the risk of developing OHSS if her estrogen continues to climb. I never had that problem since I would only have 4-5 eggs at retrieval, so my estrogen was nowhere near that level, mine would always take a slight drop after trigger.  But yes in these cases the RE would most likely fertilize them and then do a freeze all for an FET at a later date. You might want to post on Pregnant after IF also since the majority of the ladies there went through IVF.

  • Thanks nukem! I am not sure when they trigger. She also only has one ovary and 1/2 a uterus so I don't know if that changes anything at all. I will post on that other board you mentioned. Thanks again! Hope to be back here again in a couple months!
  • I was in a similar situation. I had 16 follies. I had higher estrogen and they reduced my meds but kept me going. I think it helps the smaller follies catch up. I think its a form of coasting.  I developed very mild ohss.

    Good luck to your friend!

  • LurkerLoo, browsing PG35 for encouragement.....

So my first two ivf cycles, I had on average 1218 follies, ranging in size from 1620 at trigger, and E2 was about 2000. This was for antagonist protocol, I averaged 15 mature eggs at retrieval.

Ivf3 and 4, new protocol : MDLF, 3 I had 18 mature eggs, E2 was 4500 at trigger, our one blasty was frozen. I'm currently stimming for 4. I have 26 WHOA!!!! Follies stim day 5 and E2 of 408.

My RE liked the quality of my eggs better with this protocol / higher E2. We are doing genetic testing, so all good quality embies are frozen, but my nurse indicated with the high E2 I'd have to do a FET regardless....

Best of luck to your friend.. And you!!!!

  • I don't know what happened exactly but after bloodwork and an ultrasound they cancelled everything including retrieval.  She is so sad, understandably.  I wish there was something I could do but I know there isn't
