sick vs. healthy waiting area

Does your pedi. office have separate waiting areas for sick vs. healthy? Mine dosent and I am surprised but I completely love the practice and wouldnt change due to that. Just curious if this is pretty common or do a lot of places just mix all patients.

  • No but I really wish that it did.  My dr is in a practice with 6-8 doctors so there are always quite a few people in the waiting room.

  • It's one big room with two separate sections. I really wish it was two completely separate rooms but oh well.

  • yes ours even has a section glassed off from the other areas for newborns

it DRIVES ME CRAZY when people don't use the correct sections especially when I see a sick child in the newborn section!

  • Yes.  But IMO, it doesn't do much.  The books and chairs get mixed between the two areas anyway.  At least there isn't a kid coughing on mine?

This is the way our pedi's office is too...it's kind of seperated in the center by the reception desk.

  • No. I had never heard of that until I read it on here.

  • Both the dr's office I work for and the one I take dd to have seperate waiting rooms.  That being said I witness parents with sick kids trying to get away with sitting in the well room all day every day so don't feel too secure.

  • no, it's a family medicine practice so adults and children are all together in the waiting room.  There is an area in the hallway where you can wait. They also have masks available if someone is really sick. I love our doctor so I'd never change over this issue.

This makes me laugh, not at you of course but it reminds me of the times before smoking was banned. Remember eating in restaurants where there was a glass partition dividing the smoking diners from the non-smoking diners, as if the partition blocked out the smoke. lol

  • Yes, but I don't think people pay attention to it. I've seen kids that are clearly ill sitting in the well child section. When my son is sick, I do my best to keep him contained in the sick child area. When he had HFM and viral meningitis, I brought the stroller and strapped him in it because I wouldn't wish that shiit on my worst enemy.

  • Yes, mine has 2 completely separate waiting areas.  You can see into the other as the top half of the wall is glass.  The wall separating the 2 rooms has a door in it and I have seen staff tell sick people that they need to go wait in the 'sick' waiting area.
  • Yes, ours seperate. Actually, the sick area (waiting rooms, reception, exam rooms, etc) is on a completely different floor so there's really very little chance of germs crossing over to the well side. I heart my Ped :)

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

  • No, but our pediatrician has separate hours.  Opening until 11:00 are for well child visits and vaccinations.  There is a 30 minute gap where they wipe down the seats with alcohol wipes, then they have sick child time for the rest of the day.

  • Mine does but there are only toys in the healthy side so they tend to blend anyway. Our office seems to be good about booking appointments in blocks though. Sick kids early, then toddlers, then infants later in the afternoon.
  • Nope, we're at the top respected practice in our city and they don't have one. They do have a back entrance they have you come in and go straight to a specific room for certain illnesses and newborns are taken straight to a room.

  • well sort of.  We live in south florida and typically we wait outside if we are sick and the well kids and newborns go inside.  It is kind of how it works.  They have a huge covered area with chairs, etc.  It isn't stated to do that, but that is usually how we do it and how most people do it.

  • Ours has two separate waiting rooms, but it's not strictly enforced, and I'm fine with that. Studies have shown that separate waiting rooms don't make a difference anyway.
