Hello,
I just found out yesterday that I have polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid). I was wondering if any of you ladies also have this condition and what your doctors have done about it?
I don't have some of the other risk factors that usually go along with it, like I do not have GD and the baby is not showing any abnormalities.
I just don't have my appointment until Monday and I'm wondering if anybody can offer suggestions or support. I feel so in limbo cuz everybody just keeps saying, we'll just keep doing ultrasounds and monitoring and we'll see what they show. I just want a solution or a proper answer. I keep feeling like I have something hanging over my head that could drop at any time if an ultrasound comes back really negative ![]()
TIA!
Re: Intro and question on Polyhydramnios
I also have polyhydraminos. Honestly, we monitor it every week. I show up they do the ultrasound, they watch to see Lena breath for 30 seconds straight. I talk to the perinatoligst and she says "Yep, still too much fluid but, everything looks great. See you next week".
The further along I get the faster they see her practice her breating. In the beginning at 24w-28w it sometimes took 20+min for her to do it. I would get nervous but, they were always quick to point out it isn't something they do very often at that point. Now (I'm 32w) they almost always see her practicing right off. My numbers have ranged from 35cm-20cm They tend to stay right around 31cm.
The peri did have me do the three hr GD test to be 100% I didn't have it and I failed. Since getting my fasting numbers under control with a pill my fluid levels have gone down a tiny bit. So don't be shocked if they tell you they want you to re take the GD test.
My Dr. mentioned that unless you get in the 45-high 50's with your numbers there is nothing to worry about. I know it's hard not to worry but, try not to. I have found this is nothing I can control and honestly has proven to be not that big of a deal. On the plus side you get to see LO every week. I will be thinking of you for sure. Let me know if you have any questions. I can try and answer them.
Thank you, that is reassuring! My numbers are around 30 cm.
Ya, I've been tested 3 times for GD and always negative lol.

Hi, I recognize you from another board from way back when we first got pregnant!
As the PP said, you are almost done, so try not to stress too much. It's possible that you are borderline GD which is why you have passed the tests (this happened to my friend who had polyhydramnios). In which case, it's probably good to follow a GD diet for the last few weeks. It's such a healthy way to eat that it couldn't hurt. Without worrying about numbers of carbs, etc, just eat a lot of proteins and healthy fats and lay off the carbs. When you do eat carbs, get them from starchy veggies (like sweet potatoes) and not from things like wheat and sugar.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. I wish you the best with the next few weeks and a very easy delivery!
