I named my DD Lillian and call her Lily. I forgot the site but when I looked it up (last year) it was ranked 102 of the most popular. Which is why I chose it - not popular.

I don't think it's popular. I have not met another Lily or heard another parent call their daughter Lily. Matthew however was not popular when I named him and I hear it everywhere now So in short, no.
Its everywhere where I am....Its my hubby's first choice he is completely in love with this name but in our area Lily's are everywhere. We instead chose Emily (which by the lists is way more popular) but we don't hear it around here at all....I'd go by your area and not the lists personally.
I have a DD named Lillian and generally call her Lillian. I think there is one other Lily in her daycare (infant-4 year olds). She was named after my grandmother and my DH's mother, so we weren't as worried about the popularity factor.

I haven't talked about it much here, but we are 95 sure we are naming our LO Lillian. Our battle is how to shorten it.
I think it is strange to spell it "Lily" when there are two "L's" in Lillian!
What about Lillie?

I only know of one other Lily close to us, but she's 6, I think. My Lillian is 2. We don't call her Lilly very often, but she ended up being LilliBug, kind of like Lady Bug. I'm not even sure how it got started, but it's cute.

Why? Nicknames don't have to follow rules. Why is Mike a nn for Michael? (rhetorical)

A cousin named her daughter Madison. She told me a few weeks ago that a teacher once praised her for shortening it to "Madi" because it made sense with the spelling of her full name and helped when learning to write. She said girls she had seen shortened to "Maddy" had a difficult time going between their shortened name and full name.
I thought about it before that conversation, but that story made me really think about it. We've tossed around doing Lilli.
I know 6 under the age of 3 with one or the other.

So do you feel like there are a lot of them?

I know a Lili who's about 3, but her full name is Lilikoi. It doesn't seem like it's that popular of a name... at ALL.
