Did anyone see this review of the "Birth Story" movie about Ina May? https://movies.nytimes.com/2013/01/16/movies/birth-story-puts-midwives-in-the-spotlight.html?hpw&_r=1&
I find the review very anti-natural birth. Am I being sensitive? I expected more from the NY Times. The article mentions some "controversy" about the Farm, but links to some article that doesn't really mention any controversy except that they grew pot there in the 1960s (is anyone shocked by that)?
Re: Times' review of "Birth Story"
Let me preface this with saying I haven't seen the movie. I have, however, seen other similar movies such as the ever-popular Business of Being Born. I found it very one-sided and biased. It sounded like it could be a potentially fair criticism. Unfortunately it's not a black and white issue. Both sides - the doctor who says you need a bunch of interventions "for the good of your baby", and the makers of these documentaries rely too much on scare tactics in my opinion. I'm not saying The Business of Being Born doesn't have a valid point, I was just annoyed to see how one-sided their message was. The review you linked sounds very similar to a review I would have written about the TBOBB - which is that the movie-makers have valid and worthwhile things to say, but unfortunately resort to presenting a very biased argument to win people over to their point of view.
