Almost 3 year old coloring style Question

My almost 3 year old DD use to be a scribbler. The past few months she has come home to her coloring books after school, and will color me a picture that is out of a coloring book. When she hands it to me, Each object has a different colored "dot" on it. No scribbling at all. She is SOOO proud of her work and shows it to me. I will ask her to keep coloring it some more and to add color and she will just "bold" her colored dots and keep bringing it back so proud.

I have sat with her and colored to show her but she still doesn't get it? I bought her an easel for X-mas and she scribbles like crazy on it.

I just find it odd as I have never known a child to color like her as most scribble at her age...

Any thoughts on this one? I don't want to change her coloring technique, but was wondering if anyone elses kid does this?

TIA!

Re: Almost 3 year old coloring style Question

  • DD doesn't do a dot on each object, but has started to color pictures more distinctly like each object is a different color.  Maybe this is her next step between scribbling all over the page and coloring each object?

My daughter used to fill an entire blank page with scribbles.  Now whether it is a coloring page or a blank page, she colors, colors, colors one spot - where it will even go through the paper if she uses markers.  She is also almost three.  I'm going with it is a phase! :)
