Weighted blankets?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a weighted blanket that costs less than 60 dollars? DS2 is still in a crib so
I'm trying to find one that he'll be able to use in the crib or toddler bed when he moves to it. Right now he is using two heavy toddler bed comforters.

Re: Weighted blankets?

  • Does he have an OT through early intervention? I got a weighted blanket/weighted vest for free.

If that isnt an option, you can make one yourself. If you google do it yourself weighted blanket there's a few sites with a few different options. They're pretty easy.

No, he scored just above the cut off so he didn't qualify. They did give us some great recommendations and advice though.

I'll look into making one or possibly having my grandma if I find a tutorial.
    Thanks!
  • The homemade ones are great! I had seen lap ones made out of roles of pennys for the weights.  With a blanket though, that would become very expensive!

  • Thanks. I spoke with someone from early intervention who is going to set us up with a local woman who makes them.
  • Thanks everyone! We spoke with the woman that we were referred to by the EI woman and she is making one for him which should be done by the 31st. His ped also gave us a referal and we were able make an appointment with the OT at DS1's therapy center next Thursday.

He broke our pack and play a few days ago by running into it full force after having fallen down the stairs and purposely hitting his head repeatedly on the wall during seperate incidents earlier the same day. Luckily, the baby was not in it but it was enough for DH to say that he wants the second opinion at this point rather than waiting to see if it gets better.
  • My OT recommended this and I ordered one from www.sensacalm.com. You can pick and choose your fabric.  I didn't do a homemade one, because I am busy as a working mom and also I am not very crafty or anything.  You need to make sure the weight is right.  My OT said approx 10 percent of body wt plus one pound. so my son is approx 35 pounds so 3.5 pounds is 10 percent plus one pound made 4.5 pounds and we rounded up to 5 so he will get some use out of it. Hope that makes sense.  Your OT should give their recommendations.
