this made me laugh once I was over the confusion

DH and I received a fairly stern email from SS2's teacher requesting parental authorization forms and payment for an upcoming non-academic trip to Washington DC.  Apparently, there was a final parent meeting last night. 

We were never informed of the trip.  SS2 was certainly giving his teacher the impression that he was going.

DH explained we didn't know anything of the trip.  (SS2 is junior in hs).

together since 2006
full time stepmom to SS1 and SS2 since 2010
married since 2011

TTC since 7/2011 (no planned bc since 2008)
HSG 11/2011: one blocked tube
S/A 2/2012 and retest S/A 3/2012: normal
Bloodwork: normal
2nd HSG 5/2012: clear
Femara cycle 5mg #1 7/14/12 + IUI #1 7/23/12 = bfn
New RE appt 8/14/12
IVF #1 meds 8/30/12. ER 9/14/2012: 7 retrieved, 6 fertilized. ET 9/19/12: 1 perfect embryo 5dt.
Beta #1 BFP! 97

Beta #3 4937
ultrasound #1 heart beat 127
10/20/12 graduated!!!

    Lovely!! I don't know who to be more frustrated with, SS or BM. BM should have notified you of the trip, the cost and the meetings. But SS is also old enough to have mentioned the upcoming trip. Sheesh.

    Oh its all SS2. BM doesn't have anything to do with these things. SS2 rarely speaks with her.

    These upcoming years scare me.

    Do they not send out newsletters/emails etc in the upper grades to inform parents of events?

    If not, I'm doomed.

    If this were my son or SS he wouldn't be going.  A trip to Washington DC isn't necessarily cheap.  Where's that money coming from with zero notice?

    He isn't going.  He has had a terrible attitude and failed two classes.  If he had discussed this with us, we would have told him that his behavior and grades needed serious improvement before we would consider it. 

    As a second note, I'm not going to jump through hoops for him if he can't bother giving us the forms.  Yes, this probably would have been a pricey trip (if I ever saw the cost). 

    We get a lot of notices via email/mail; however, this was a leadership level class that tries to teach maturity and responsibility.  Everything is given to the kids to review with parents.  Clearly that was a failure on SS2's part.

    Newsletters?

    Most high schools have a website with links to forms and information. It took me a while to get into the groove of checking once or twice a week. Even our elementaries don't waste paper on folder fodder.

    Our school sends out a monthly newsletter by email.

    Our school/district website sends messages to our online parent profile.

    Our 3rd grade teacher sends out weekly messages on classroom happenings, and our 6th grader's teacher emails daily updates on what's going on.
