Ok ladies, I am sitting here pumping at work and trying to work out TWO clogged ducts. I think I need to throw some items in my pump bag to help with this in the future.
I am currently using some paper towels that I have dipped in hot water from the kitchen to help open up the ducts, but I guess I probably need a washcloth.
What do you keep in your work pumping bag that might come in handy?
Re: Work pumping bag
If you have access to a microwave at work, a cloth bag with rice in it works really well for a warm compress. For me it says warmer a lot longer than a washcloth (then you also don't have to worry about the wetness).
Motrin or Tylenol can help some too.
Hopefully those clogged ducts come free soon!
Rice in a bag; I used to have one of these and it does hold the heat well. I'll definitely have to make that and add it. It was a pain trying to keep my paper towel warm enough, but I did work out the clogs.
I don't normally have this issue; only since coming back to work since my pump isn't doing its job well enough. If I continue to have duct issues I'll look into lecithin.
Thanks!
Oh, ouch. Clogged ducts HURT!! I agree with PP's recommendation on treatment.
I definitely recommend lecithin as a preventative measure. I would get clogged ducts every time DS would hit a growth spurt (I read somewhere that it's the fatty milk that gets stuck in the ducts). After I started taking lecithin, I think I got one?? And it worked out so much faster than the previous ones, and I haven't had one since.
The other thing I did when I had them was to let DS pacify nurse on the sore side, and point his chin at the clog. Even now, I start him on the side that is prone to clogging, just to make sure that it always gets completely emptied when he nurses.
ETA, your siggy pic is freakin' adorable. Love your LO's hair!
