I'm so excited to visit a friend next week. Her LO was born on 12/28 and I haven't seen a new baby in sooo long. I'm planning to bring cupcakes since she has a sweet tooth and I've already given her baby gifts but don't like to show up empty handed.
She's happy but exhausted and had a rough delivery -- I'm thinking of asking her hubby if there is somewhere I could get her a gift certificate too -- nothing huge but a way she could pamper herself when she is up to it.
Other ideas?
Re: visiting a new mum -- what to bring?
What about some post baby specific lotion? I love this stuff!

Flowers, wine, alcohol test strips (if she is nursing)?
A new frame for her to put LO's picture in it
Magazines, tea, a new water bottle!
A new warm soft throw!
A movie, popcorn, and candy for she and her H.
NEW UNDERWEAR! I would have loved a cute pair from a good friend! Good bye pregnancy panties!
Awesome ideas ladies -- how quickly I forgot the rough early weeks. I hope I can visit her a few times during her leave -- she lives across from my office downtown so I think once her mom is gone and her DH is back to work she'll be even more happy for some company especially other mums who she doesn't have to feel "dressed up" for etc.
So I will probably use a bunch of these ideas. I wish I'd had so many awesome friends as you around when I was home and overwhelmed
Our neighbor brought over 2 pans of food, and it was absolutely fabulous (not totally my style, but awesome that we didn't have to cook anything). So make a casserole or two that they can freeze or cook, or gift cards to order out somewhere that delivers?
Do you know if she's nursing? If so, you could make up a basket with water bottles, some of the flavor packets (I got sick of plain water), lots of different high-energy snacks (trail mix, granola bars, some cookies - well, those are just for fun), etc.
Depending on how close the two of you, maybe just offer to come over and help with laundry or something?
That's very sweet of you!
Agreed! The best vistor is one with food & that offers to do something while they are there. Run the vaccum or do a load of laundry. I was surprised how much my family didn't do for me and how much my GF's offered to do for me.
