How many guests at first birthday party?

How many people are you inviting?

My family tends to have big first birthday parties- inviting all aunts, uncles and cousins (which in my family is a lot) and then not really doing big parties for the other birthdays.

What about you guys?

Re: How many guests at first birthday party?

  • It is the norm in DH's family to have a large 1st birthday with all the family and then scale back for other birthdays.  DD is the first grandchild in my family, so we have no traditions/norms.  With just our immediate families, aunts/uncles, 1st cousins, and a few close friends, we invited almost 90.  I know some won't come, but still had to invite them (both DH's and my families are the "invite one, invite all" types).

  • Same here.  Big 1st, small for the rest.  And it is all DH's family, as my family is small.  Counting kids, the invitation list was about 120 people. No joke. About 75 are supposed to be there, but of course, I still have about 20 people unaccounted for as they never bothered to respond. I was actually getting more excited when people were calling and saying they weren't coming than when they called to say they would be there.  I am so stressed about this party that it isn't even fun for me.  Sadly, I can't wait for it to be over. :(

  • We'll be doing a fairly big one this year, DH's family never even does birthdays.

I almost think we might have 2 though. There is a group of ladies who I meet up with for play dates who all want to come, plus we have been invited to all theirs; however, our house is way too small to fit everyone. So, I was thinking small casual play group one and then a bigger one for family and close friends.

  • We are doing the same.  We rented a hall and are inviting 80 people; family and friends.  We are hoping some can't make it, but are expecting a rather large turn out none the less.  I am going all out on decorations, but have no intentions of doing this for following birthdays, just the first.

  • Twenty-two families including us.  Which if everyone came (which I doubt) would be 48 adults and 13 kids.  Already we know 6 adults are not coming...at 2 weeks before the party.  We invited some more to our sons 1st birthday, more of our aunts/uncles and cousins, but made the list a little smaller this time around.

This. And it only includes my family and friends. DH's lives far.

  • We are maxing it out at 50 people. No first cousins. My thing is if they have not made an effort to meet him or visit him on their own accord then they are not invited

  • We are doing things a little different, because I have a very small family, and DH has a huge, close, extended family. So on Saturday we are having a party, which will be just both of our close, immediate family (about 15-20 people) and then Sunday we are having an open house for friends, extended family, etc. I thought it would be entirely overwhelming to have 50-70 people in a room surrounding a 1 year old, and the thought of hosting a party for that scared the living daylights out of me. This way we will just have some cupcakes, everyone can spend time with Paul and it's much more laid back.

  • My family tends to have big parties for the first birthday (really, all the "milestone birthdays") too.

Right now, our guest list is at 65. I know of about 5 who won't be able to make it, but we "have" to send them an invitation anyway. (to avoid people getting butthurt, you know?)

I don't mind "having" to invite so many this time. There's a bunch of extended family of my Mamaw's (so my great aunts/uncles and their families) who haven't had the chance to meet Aria yet, and who we haven't seen in a while. It'll be nice to see them and catch up, and to introduce them to Aria at the party.

(unfortunately, this also means we have to invite all of the inlaws or risk a giant fight... ugh.)

  • My family always has a big birthday party every year including my aunt, uncles, cousins, etc. and dh's family is very close and loves any excuse to get together so our guest list is about 80 and probably will be every year!

  • We have about 65 on the guest list, but there may be a few more to add.  DH has a big family 6 brothers and 1 sister, so just them and their spouses and kids is about 25 people.  We are inviting aunts and cousins on my side because I wouldn't have any family there if we didn't.  I only have my mom and one sister.  I'm not too worried, as we had about 40 people over for Christmas and it went really well.  I just have to pray for nice weather so people can flow inside and outside.

  • Only 40 on our list and I doubt if more than 20 will be there. My family is very scattered and with all the drama I doubt certain individuals will make it.

  • Our family's parties are always big cause there are so many of us. And then dhs family is big as well so. Its pretty normal for all parties to have at least 40 people. DS had his birthday party this past Sunday and there were 87 people total, that's both our families and friends and kids included.
