Making a Registry

How involved were you in making the registry (if you did one)?  Were you only allowed to shoot the registry gun or did you have actual input?

Re: Making a Registry

  • We made 3 registries.  I had input on all 3, but held the gun for only 2.  Only 2 were used for showers/family.  The other we created for a completion coupon for ourselves only.

My word of advice is, register as many places as possible... even if you don't plan on actually buying things there.  Buy, Buy Baby, Target and Babies R Us all give you freebee stuff for creating one at their store.

Now, in some cases, my input was she'd pick 3 of an item (i.e. stroller, high chair, etc.) and I'd get to select which I liked best.  She was unemployed at the time (essentially fired for being pregnant, but never actually told that so she couldn't sue), so she had time to research things more than I could.  In other cases, I would put input on what I liked, in terms of sleep sacks, clothes, etc.

  • We did 100% of the registry online. DW basically did all of it. She wanted me to be involved, but we quickly learned that we have different tastes, but I don't care as much as she did. It ended up being fun for me at the shower, I was totally surprised by everything!

Good tip.  We don't have Buy Buy Baby where we live though.  I think my wife wants to start this process this weekend.

  • We don't like crowds or stores that much so most of the time we just did it online.  I got in trouble when MW allowed me to create a registry and I used my name instead of hers so her work couldn't find it.

  • When we registered, I pretty much handled the big things like the crib, strollers, car seat and monitors.  My wife handled all of the other areas because I simply did not know all of the things that were needed.

We made dates of it.  Dinner and babies r us on a Friday night.  I thought it was fun, because I got more excited as we picked things out.

  • Maybe I'll propose making a date of it and score some more points, haha.  Thanks for the idea!

  • Our registry was not as big of a deal because my wife and I made a weekly trek to Babies R Us/Buy Buy Baby on Wednesdays on what we deemed "Baby Day", since it was another week in the womb completed each Wednesday.  We'd scout for the registry then, so when we went to do the registry, it wasn't too bad.
  • My wife kept the gun, she is hardcore about that....but I was the geek with the ratings, consumer reports, etc.

So we were 50/50...but I went to pee at one point and she clicked a bunch of random crap....all of which I had to return after our 2 showers. :-/

  • Well we set up a registry at Babies R Us yesterday.  I got to use the gun the whole time.  We were there for a few hours and left feeling a little overwhelmed.  I'm sure a big chunk of it will end up being reworked.  We will be setting one up at Target as well, but that will be next weekend.  I am guessing that one won't be as overwhelming because it is just a handful of aisles instead of a dedicated store.

Yeah, that first trip shopping gave me a big time headache.  I think we went back there at least six times before he was born. And after he got here, we have been back many times.

  • We haven't made our registry yet, but when I do, my hubby will have his choice again. (He chose to be part of the wedding one)

Then, I will go with other experienced people too. Then He and I will sit down and refine the list
