Pregnant after a Loss

Extra dry skin during pregnancy?

Is that common or possible? I normally have issues with more dry skin in the winter, but this?! My skin on my face is SO flaky. I practically look like I'm peeling from the world's most pale sunburn ever! No amount of exfoliating or moisturizer makes any bit of difference. Has anyone else experienced this during your pregnancy? And if so, did you do or use anything that made it better?

  • My skin is pretty bad lately, but it's also really cold this winter. No big advice, just lots of water and lotion.

  • I'm having the same problem. The skin on my hands is actually cracking, it's gross. I make coconut oil body butter and it works great on my body and face. I just think my hands are doomed because I wash them non stop.

  • Meeee! My face has been way flaky (especially my forehead and on either side of my nose...like the cheekbones). I find that when I use Jojoba oil (I found mine at Trader Joe's), it really makes a difference. But I usually let it sink in and don't apply makeup right after. I rub it in after I take off my makeup in the evening (but not right before bed or it will just wipe off on the pillow) or after my morning shower I put it on, and then get dressed, eat breakfast, do my hair and lastly apply makeup once it's sunk in a bit. My face seems to deal with the dry skin the worst but I make sure to do sugar scrubs in the shower to help add some moisture to the rest of my body (and lotion post shower).

  • With my last pregnancy, my hair and skin were SO SO SO dry!! Like, gross flaking off dry (and the split ends in my hair were atrocious!)  This time, I think it's just winter dryness, but it's definitely dry!

    Lots and lots of water!

  • Eat more fatty foods. No, not cheeseburgers and fries (I wish) but stuff with avocado, olive oil, coconut oil. Maybe take a DHA supplement if you aren't already.

I haven't had any experience with this but I know that these things are good for the skin. Maybe that will help

You can also make an exfoliating mask with leftover avocado and strawberry that's just heavenly.

  • Oh yes.  Mine dried up around second tri and I hate to tell you this...I still look like a zombie.  Alice is almost 4 months old.  Stock up on Aquafor now! LOL  Seriously, I put it on my hands and feet, then put on the gloves and socks.  It's about the only thing that makes my hands not rougher than my construction worker dad's hands!

  • My skin is super dry every winter so it's not a surprise that it's dry during my pregnancy too. I have intense healing hand lotions everywhere. At my desk at work, in my purse, at home. I use Nivea with vitamin E for my body and it seems to get the job done. For my face I'm using a garnier moisturizer. It's the only thing that doesn't make me super oily.

  • Well at least I'm not alone! I've been using a face wash with walnut shell exfoliators in it but I may try a sugar scrub and I have a ton of coconut oil, I'll see about using that as well. I seriously feel so scaly and itchy! Yuk! Thanks for the suggestions ladies!

  • My skin on my face is literally flaking off. It's gross! I have just been keeping to my regular moisturizer. When I get up in the morning it's pretty bad..especially between my eyebrows.

  • My skin is super dry, too. It is also super sensitive, so I have to be careful what I use on it. I have had really great success using coconut oil! I bought a jar of organic coconut oil at the grocery store, took it home and whipped it in my Kitchen Aid for about 6 minutes. It whipped up super soft and fluffy, and has really really helped my dry skin (and my stretch marks)! Plus I smell really yummy, but I crave coconut now! You can also add a few drops of essential oil to it while whipping it up to make it smell however you like! HTH!
