Update: GD cut offs

What are the GD cut offs for the 3 hour test?

I thought they were higher than the ones for after eating regular food but the lab technician said no.  If that's true, I definitely failed my 3 hour today.

But I rechecked my blog from when I was diagnosed with DS and I was told totally different numbers.  In which case I only failed the 1 hour test.  Do you remember what thresholds you were told?

Update:  I passed!  I didn't ask for their thresholds on the phone just because I had kids playing around me.  But I'm sure you all can understand why I'm delighted!  The nurse said to continue to eat good and just check about once a week and that the OB will probably lift that at the next appointment.  I think I will probably check every few days until probably 28 weeks just to be safe.  But I guess my numbers were just high while I was sick, so weird.  They've been fine otherwise.  I even ate a glazed donut and NO protein for breakfast last week and it was fine.  Good luck to you ladies!

  • I wasn't told specifically. I have Kaiser and when they send you your results they tell you what the normal range is. It appears that it has been 2+ years since you had your son and the standards have gotten a LOT stricter recently. I know they've changed even in the time I've had GD. One of my nurses mentioned it during a weekly phone call to get my numbers because I was told the previous standards.

  • I don't remember what the cutoffs were last time with DS.  This time I went in for the 2 hour initially and I failed the fasting draw with an 89 (they wanted 87 and below) so I failed before taking the test.

Interesting!  I've been told under 100 before a GD diagnosis and then if it's GD it would be 90.  I keep getting numbers between 80-95 and they weren't worried.  But when I was sick I had some that were like 113, 126.  Today I got 89 at the house.  I don't know what it was at the office, sometimes it goes up if I've been awake for a bit so I hope that didn't affect it.

I've looked at some websites and I guess they could be out of date, but so far it still looks like the only one I failed was my one hour.  I didn't think it sounded right that they expected my levels to be the same after eating a good GD diet versus glucose solution.  I mean....yeah, it's going to be higher with straight sugar, lol.  Of course even if I passed I'm only 20 weeks so they'll probably have me keep testing at home.

  • My OB only does 2 hour tests now... the cut offs are:

Fasting: 92 and lower, although they will refer if you are between 90-92.

    1 Hour: 180 and lower

    2 Hour: 153 and lower

In my case previously they will refer even if you failed one of the three hour draws or it's close enough to failing.
