Parenting after a Loss

Toddler mom check-in (late, sorry)

Hi toddler moms!. Sorry I'm late this week. Still thought it would be nice to post and check in.

This check-in is for moms with a toddler(s) age 12-36 months.

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

QOTW: Sometimes we all could use ideas of fun things to do with our toddlers, outings, etc. What is something you have recently done or plan to do soon as a fun activity/outing with your toddler?

Re: Toddler mom check-in (late, sorry)

  • She randomly busted out and sang the ABCs while on a walk the other day. I knew she knew random parts as she would often chime in on "lmnop" but I had no clue she knew the whole thing or would do it spontaneously.

We're doing pretty well lately. Nothing out of the ordinary challenge wise.

Nothing particularly funny this week. Though she's been singing "Happy birthday to B" for weeks and now instead of "I love you" when we put her to bed she says "Happy New Year!"

We're checking out the new National Children's Museum this weekend.

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

He is starting to point at things and say Whaistha or "What is that."  He is saying some words.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

Our big challenge is sleep or lack of sleep, but this week has been better, so things are going  great. I have no complaints.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

He likes to put stuff on his head......bowls, plates, boxes.  I have a pretty funny video of him at daycare dumping all toys out of boxes and putting boxes over his head!

QOTW: Sometimes we all could use ideas of fun things to do with our toddlers, outings, etc. What is something you have recently done or plan to do soon as a fun activity/outing with your toddler?

We take walks on a regular basis with our dog and he really enjoy those. Other than that, we go to playground for activity a lot.

DD is into lacing beads, and lacing cards, puzzles (real pieces, not shapes with knobs), and memory games.  We have to keep upping the challenge b/c she is mastering things so fast!  We are on 3+ skill level games now.  It is so fun!

She is having a sleep regression / bad dreams / teething thing and is not sleeping well these days.  We are all exhausted.

She is a very sensitive girl - whenever DH and I are talking somewhat seriously (normal tone voices) she says "Mommy - you're ok, Daddy - you're ok."  I feel bad that she thinks something is wrong - but we are just having a conversation.  Poor kiddo.

The Children's Museum is getting a Dora the Explorer exhibit later this month so we are going to take a day off work and do a family trip to the museum on a weekday so she can enjoy it without getting trampled by the bigger kids that are there on the weekends.

That is super fun about the activities and puzzles and stuff. DD got a couple of puzzles for Christmas and she's getting the idea. I think once I sit down with her and do one, she will really take off. The box she got was a 3 in 1 so I think we need to separate which puzzle is which first, lol.

Jealous of the walks. You must be someplace warm. Missing taking DD to the park.

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? She's just really funny. It's awesome!

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

She's really fighting getting dressed lately. Not in a crabby way, in a goofy way. I've found it helps if I get her dressed in front of Sprout in the morning but given my already low energy we aren't so quick to get out the door.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

Since I've been bad about updating, when I was putting DD to bed a few weeks ago, I was talking to her about baby sister and after she made sure baby sister wasn't going to take her toys, she asked me if she was going to have her own daddy. DD is a daddy's girl for sure.

Last night we went to get me some new body pillows and DD a couple pillows for her room. After we found the ones for DD, DH and I were having trouble finding the body pillows. So then DD was walking around saying, "we have to find a body!" LOL.

QOTW: Sometimes we all could use ideas of fun things to do with our toddlers, outings, etc. What is something you have recently done or plan to do soon as a fun activity/outing with your toddler?

Struggling in this area b/c of my lack of energy, being sick and my busy season at work. Very excited for DD to start her new toddler tumbling class tonight though.

I wish were in a warm state, but we are in PA.  We just bundle up and go for walks.  Our dog needs his walk........he is a very active dog.

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

She loves identifying balls and stars throughout the day and saying the word. We've been working on extending naps in the last week and she has done so well!

What challenges are you currently facing?

Just getting whiny and impatient and crying when she wants something. I'm sure real tantrums are right around the corner.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

She says, "Oh! What's that?!?" All the time and it doesn't always make sense but is super cute.

QOTW: Sometimes we all could use ideas of fun things to do with our toddlers, outings, etc. What is something you have recently done or plan to do soon as a fun activity/outing with your toddler?

We are starting toddler dance classes in a couple weeks and I'm stoked!

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

Well, if I asked him he'd probably say learning how to splash mama REALLY well during bathtime.  I'd say he's been working on climbing lately.

What challenges are you currently facing?

Grabbing/slapping/poking us in the face.  He's rough.  Seems par for the course for the age though...

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

Still not really talking.  There was one day last week where he was being ornery and to snap him out of it I grabbed his foot, fake sniffed and then held my nose and said "PU stinky feet!"  He thought it was hilarious.  The next day he walked up to me when I had my feet on the ottoman, put his nose to my feet and the looked at me and wrinkled his nose.  Well played, little man.  I've not done that since, lol.

QOTW: Sometimes we all could use ideas of fun things to do with our toddlers, outings, etc. What is something you have recently done or plan to do soon as a fun activity/outing with your toddler? Have done: Toddler story time at the local library, zoo trips, parks.  Plan to do: A local play place.

  • Hi ladies!  I guess I'm over here now - DD turned a year on the 6th (tear!).

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

She is way into dancing/music and loves to shake her head side to side.  Her new accomplishment is waving "bye".  We've been working on it for a while and she's finally doing it when leaving DC and saying bye to family members.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

I'm just nervous about food and what to feed her.  We trialed a tiny bit of WCM this weekend and it went horribly.  Her appt. with the pedi is on Thursday so we will see where we go from here.  As of now it is most likely a milk allergy though (she never had trouble with me taking dairy, yogurt, or cheese).

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

She's not saying too much yet, but she is such a ham and constantly is cracking me up.

QOTW: Sometimes we all could use ideas of fun things to do with our toddlers, outings, etc. What is something you have recently done or plan to do soon as a fun activity/outing with your toddler?

We're going to the aquarium later this month.  Can't wait!
