Would this bug you?

We just went to the first session of "Wonderful Ones" at the library this morning. We used to do Books for Babies last year, but that was before Lily was active, of course. Now she's not only active, she's very affectionate. With everyone, but especially children. She hugged three or four of the other toddlers and gave the only boy in the class a kiss on the cheek. I warned the other mothers that she likes to hug as she approached the kids, and made her let go after a little bit (her hugs tend to last too long). But I couldn't quite tell if the other moms were upset about how hands-on Lily was. Personally, I would think it was cute and sweet and it wouldn't bother me. But I'm wondering how others would take it, especially if their kid was a bit more on the shy side.

NOT AT ALL, I would think that it was sweet. However if I noticed that the hug was running long and C was over it, I'd just say "Thank you Lilly for the nice hug!" and redirect onto something else.

It wouldn't big me unless the kid hugging was rough with Gator or if the kid hugging had a nasty green snot nose, is drooling like a faucet, or has a bad cough. Other than that, I don't think it would bug me.

They are kids for heaven sakes! If the parents are that uptight they have bigger issues to worry about than an affectionate toddler. I wouldn't even worry about it and I would be glad my LO was that affectionate and kind.

Nora and Lily can hug it out together. Nora usually scares other kids, because she's so affectionate. I'm usually the one to redirect Nora, because she's a little overzealous with her hugs. Most parents don't seem to mind; it's the kids a little weirded out by her super love.

No way. I think that's absolutely adorable! I would only have an issue if she was sick like, you know, runny nose, coughing etc. I'm kind of a germaphob though so maybe that's just me. Lilly can come give Natalie hugs anytime

Definitely agree with you there, missy. A lot of the kids just don't know how to react. And don't know how to get her to let go. LOL

Nobody acted annoyed, just a bit surprised. And I wasn't sure if it would be one of those things where they'd act fine with it and turn around to their other mom friends and be like "Can you believe this happened?!"

I don't like to hover too much because I don't want people to think I'm a helicopter parent. But I'm more concerned about other kids getting upset by what Lily does than about what they might do to her. This girl can be a bit overzealous at times.

I wouldn't mind at all. I can't say DS would agree with me. He likes to be affectionate on his own terms and would probably try his best to get away . I would still think it was adorable though.

As long as she's not sick, rough, or making the kids upset I wouldn't care. Lo likes to hug and kiss and some of the moms at play group today commented how they would like their kids to be more affectionate.

Doesn't bother me at all, but I will say that this kind of stuff bothers DH. He's "rescued" LBB before from strange kids' hugs. (strange as is kids we don't know, not weirdos)

It doesn't bother me. Some kids at Gymboree have been more hands on. I laugh and like to see the kids interacting without us stopping them all the time.

Just make sure she remembers to let go... My friends 2 year old loves to hug li, but forgets he has his arms around her neck and starts to run. It's adorable until your child is being dragged around flailing!

This wouldn't bother me as long as your LO wasn't obviously sick. I think it would be cute. I love when my LO goes over and hugs and kisses her cousin. She also kisses the dog quite often too.

Thanks, ladies! And to clarify, there's no way I'd be taking her somewhere full of other kids if she was sick, let alone allowing her to hug/kiss them. It'd piss me off to see a sick child all over my kid, too.

Wouldn't bother me at all! In fact, I would be very happy about seeing this and would hope your LO would rub off on mine! DS is very sweet and does give kisses/hugs - but I wish he would do this freely without being asked politely. I really have to talk him into giving affection - DH and I try to show it a lot by hugging, kissing, family hugs, etc but DS just laughs at us and thinks it is a game at this point. Not sure if it's a boy thing or what...

I really love that your daughter does that, she sounds very sweet and caring.

Oh my that is too cute! DD has tried to hug other children before too - at playgroups, the library, walking by them in restaurants, etc.

My issue right now is that she loves babies so much, so I have to try to keep her away from infants and direct her towards her baby dolls instead. She goes crazy over babies.
