3rd Trimester

Luck Ran Out :(

Luck finally ran out on avoiding the colds and flu's that are going around this season. I can't complain I normally catch everyone and I have made it till 35 weeks and a bit before catching anything.

Ladies do you know of any natural remedies to help a sore throat and clear the sinus's. I cannot take any of the cold medicine out there and after only 2 hours of sleep last night bI am up for trying anything I would be allowed to try!

TIA

  • I went to Whole Foods and got some good teas to sip on. They have some really good selections and the staff if pretty helpful. Or if you have a Teavana nearby...

Wish I could be more helpful!

  • I have it too.  Dr. okay'd multiple things including Sudafed, and in the non-drug form, breathe right strips or saline spray (non medicated.)  Broke down and took the regular strength (not extra) Sudafed (generic) because I got tired of not being able to breathe.  Hopefully it'll blow over soon.

  • For a sore throat, you can try gargling with hot salt water or eating plain salty chips.

  • Boiling water and adding a lemon wedge, I found this helped to clear the sinuses and soothe the throat.

Hot tea with raw honey, nasal rinse (like a neti pot or something similar), really long hot showers, vicks vaporub, warm mist humidifier at night.

ALL THIS! But add a good shot of lemon to your tea and honey. Like at least half a lemon per cup of tea. And if you need to, taking a bath helps too, or hanging your head over a bowl of really hot water and breath in the steam. But hot showers will really be the only time you feel remotely human.

For a sore throat, I like to gargle with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in about 6 ounces of water. Gargle with one mouthful and then gargle with a second mouthful and swallow the second one. It helps if you like the taste of vinegar. :-) I repeat this every hour until my throat feels better.

As for the sinuses, I agree with the neti pot or any saline nose spray or steam. Make some tea and breath in the steam or just fill a sink with very hot water and stand over it with a towel over your head. Feel better!

    100% this!
