3 more months until my son is here! Just wondering a couple things
we live in mild climate with basically 3 seasons... spring, summer, fall and then really cold (not much of a winter). April-May is usually calm with some rain.
what clothes did you wear during the summer if you still had a bit of a tummy left over? did you need to buy a lot of new clothes? (I know this can apply to anyone, but just wondered specifically for spring moms/babies). We spend a lot of the summer outdoors, but I'm worried none of my shorts and tops will fit (and I'm not really a dresses kind of a person)
did you take your 3-4 month old to the beach?
and if you have any other spring baby tips, whatever that may be, feel free to add.
Re: April '12 Moms help an April '13 Mom-to-be!
I didn't really buy any new clothes. I did buy some shorts that had strechy waistband (but wasn't maternity) and i already had alot of nike running shorts. Other than that some t-shirts. If you are breastfeeding then you want something that is easy to pull up. And because of BF i lost alot of the weight quick and was in my "fat" jeans by 2 weeks later.
I did take my 3 month old to the beach. Sunscreen is still not reccomended. We had a canopy, floppy hat, sunscreen t-shirts, swim shorts. We went out in the morning. But it was hard once we got up, fed, BF then he wanted to take a nap. He hated the beach.(either the wind or it being too loud) So don't be dissapointed if you get there and then don't get to go out to the beach. It was fine getting to hang out with the family and my mom watched him one day so i could go to the beach. i just came back to the house to feed him.
I enjoyed going for walks that you can do with a spring/summer baby that you might not be able to do with a fall/winter baby (i assume)
ahh that makes sense (about the beach) -- thanks
where did you find stretchy waistband shorts?
I didn't fit into any of my regular clothes until October, and I EBF. I didn't want to buy a lot of new clothes, but I had to have something to wear. I bought cheap Danskin shorts at Walmart a size or 2 bigger. My tummy and boobs were bigger, but most of my shirts still fit. It was really my hips/butt/thighs that took the worst damage. I bought 5 pairs of shorts and did a lot of laundry.
When he was first born, him and I lived in pajamas all day long. He rarely wore any of the cutsie outfits people bought him, since he always leaked from one end or the other. Even when it started to get warm, I continued wearing yoga pants because my legs looked so huge. It really depends on where your gaining weight. I didn't realize it was all in my legs until after I started to lose my tummy.
We don't live near a beach, but I did take him to my parents' swimming pool at around 3.5/4 months. He would only go out in the sun for about 10-15 minutes at a time. Good luck!

I was in my normal jeans a week after DD was born, but I wore (and still wear) nursing tanks, so showing my stomach was never an issue. I just wore tanks with a loser top over it. A friend of mine swears by wearing a bellyband for nursing so she can pull her top up to feed, but her stomach is still covered.
I was worried about needing bigger clothes too, but it turned out to be a non-issue. BF was amazing for weight-loss for me.
I'm in Philly. I lived in yoga pants and loose fitting shorts in my house and I bought capris that tied 2 sizes bigger for going out. I wore, and still do, looser fitting tops as I still have extra skin on my belly.
We took them to a pool on July 4th with the sunscreen shirts and shorts and floppy hats. We went to the beach, and tried staying under an umbrella. They weren't impressed with the salt water, and had sand all over themselves.
Summer dresses will be your best friend.
No. I didn't take my LO to the beach, but I did take her to my parent's pool. I'm not a big fan of sand, and I wouldn't want to lug a bunch of baby gear to the beach.
Make sure you have long sleeved clothing for your LO. Even though its warm, they still get cold.
Congratulations! I think spring is an AWESOME time to have a baby. You'll do lots and lots and lots of walking with LO just for a change of scenary (at least we did!). LO also was very calmed by he was very small by being outside, so be sure to try that if your LO is crying for unknown reasons.
Yes, we went to the lake multiple times with our LO. We bought long-sleezed swimming shirts and big UVF hats to protect him since he was too little for sunscreen. We also stayed in during the hottest parts of the day. But, yes, he loved the water by the end of the summer.
I'm a second time mom my first pregnancy went through the summer, so I had some maternity shorts and capris to wear. I also bought new capris that were larger, wore skirts with a roll down waist and did wear some high waist dresses.
We did go to the beach a lot. We have a beach tent that he stayed under. He wore shorts and a onesie. I made sure to nurse him frequently since it was warm still on the beach.
Congratulations! I loved having an April baby!
I had quite a tummy after ds was born and I pretty much lived in bravado nursing tanks (black esp) and larger t shirts. I had a c-sec so I got black shorts with a drawstring tie and wore those a ton too while I got back down to my size. I wanted to be comfy and I wanted to be able to nurse in my clothes. I also bought black capris that had some stretch to them. It was worth it to have some nice things while in that awkward transition time.
I never went to the beach because there's no beach here but we did go to the pool. I put him in long sleeved UV shirts and shorts and a sun hat. We tried to shade him anyway, but when i got the ok from his pedi I started using the baby sun block.
That time of year was so nice- I walked a TON. He loved being outside and he could sleep and I could get exercise. Congrats!
