mean streak??

I'm having a little problem with my 2.5 yo son.  He seems to have a little bit of a mean streak, and i don't know if it is normal behavior or not.  First, we had his soon to be step siblings over our house on Sunday, a 5yo girl and almost 2yo boy, and he was not happy!  He was fine with the girl, played with her and loved her, but with the boy, he didn't want him touching any of his toys (which I know is normal) and at one point took him into my bedroom and tried to hurt him (he pushed him) and that got me worried.  How does he even know enough to take him away from the adults to attempt to hurt him??

Also, he is very mean to my sister.  She is around him everyday, and she obviously loves him and loves playing with him.  But, he has been giving her a hard time.  When she comes in the house, he says "I don't like Auntie L" over and over, and he will cry if she tries to go near him.  Half the time he does that, and the other half he loves her and kisses her and plays like normal.   I know that my sister feels very bad about this, as do I!  He doesn't do this with anyone else, just her.  Today, when he said he doesn't like auntie, I asked why, and he said because I like Mommy!  I told him he can like everyone!  I don't know where to go from here.

Re: mean streak??

  • I don't have advice because I'm in the same boat.  I'm hoping it's an age thing.  Everyone thinks my sons evil, maniacal laugh is hilarious (it kind of is) but it's also a little disconcerting.  He's recently been very into smashing toys together and doing the evil laugh, or pushing at DC and giggling.  He'll be an absolute sweetheart with hugs and kisses and cuddles and then BAM! throwing things, hitting, laughing like an evil genius, and running around like a wild man. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for sure!  God help me, I hope this is a phase.  It might also be his adjustment to getting a sibling in a few weeks but geez.  I feel for you and hope that someone out there has some advice for us!

  • I'm going through the same thing with my son who is almost 3. I really hope its an age thing, its so strange how they can just flip a switch like that. No advice here but just wanted to say you aren't alone! Its hard to be the parent of the aggressor :
