Fenugreek verse Mother's Milk tea

Hi,

I'm considering taking a supplement to help with milk supply, but, I'm at a loss at which to use.  I don't know if i really want to take pills and smell like that one kid in the 1st grade class that always smelled like maple syrup oatmeal.  Lmao

Do you think either one really works and which one do you think works better?

Re: Fenugreek verse Mother's Milk tea

  • I drank the tea last time with DD1 at one point. Its gross but you get used to the taste. It helped some, but I didn't have huge supply issues. If I had really needed a boost, I probably would have done the pills over the tea. A coworker always took them, and I know that helped her to pump enough, but I don't think it boosted her supply enough that she was pumping much extra.

  • I used fenugreek last time. Urine did smell a little maplely. Helped with supply but gave LO gas.

  • My lactation consultant said that I would need to take 2 600mg pills, 3x a day to see an impact on my milk supply. I did it for a few days, and then LO started getting horrible gas and turned into a fussy baby overnight. I stopped the pills and he's back to "normal" now (or at least, he's waaaaay less fussy). Not sure there's a connection, but it's just not worth it to me to have him be that fussy. It's way too much stress on all of us.

  • You have to drink tons of the tea in order to see an impact. Also, lots of babies do not tolerate fenugreek well. Which happens to be in both of these supplements. What is better would be to look into lactation cookies. Which are yummy and will help naturally boost supply. You still have to pump and nurse more in conjunction with all of these in order to really see a boost.

  • I took the herbal supplements for a while and I didn't notice a big difference. I still take them along with the mothers milk tea and I have noticed some sort of increase. I chose to chill the tea because I can sip on it through out the day since it's always cold. The tea taste great with raw sugar or honey!

Aside from that, I feel like skin to skin makes the biggest difference in my supply!!

    EDIT..
I use 3 bags of tea per cup and I drink 4 cups a day!

  • I tried taking fenugreek and couldn't stand it!  I was super sweaty and definitely smelled like maple syrup.  I couldn't stand feeling and smelling gross all day!  I'm going to try baking my own lactation cookies this weekend.

  • the lactation consultants at my hospital have me taking fenugreek 2-3 capsules/3 times a day. That is also what my obgyn wants me to take, before trying Rx meds. I've been taking it 1.5 weeks and don't smell like maple syrup according to DH, but we noticed DS sometimes smells a little mapley. It does seem to be helping my supply.

  • I have been using fenugreek since couple of weeks and milk supply was ok but it gave the LO lot of gas and made him really fussy so I wouldn't suggest it.

my LO is suffering from silent reflux and fenugreek makes it lot worse from him.one of my friend suggested 'sathavari' Just started using it,will update ssoon butone thing for sure my milk supply went down after stopping fenugreek intake :(

please advice on prossobee or isomil for silent reflex?
