June 2013 Moms

So, I wasn't concerned before...

I'm a teacher, and two of my fellow teachers here at school were also pregnant this year. (One was due in December, the other in February) Well, the both had their babies VERY early -- the one who was due at the end of December had hers at the beginning of November, and the one who was due at the beginning of February just had hers last night! I am worried that I, too, will have my baby much earlier than anticipated.

I am worried because I am due June 8th and we are out of school as of May 24th, which means I have two weeks to my due date from the time school lets out for the summer. I do not have maternity leave (we are a small school, and I just started here this year) and am concerned that I won't be here for the last week or so of the year.

I don't know if I am wanting advice or just positive thoughts and words of reassurance, but I am starting to worry. Many of my teacher friends had their babies early -- is it the stress of the job or something? I don't know... thanks for listening to me ramble!

  • It's most likely just coincidence that they had their babies early. Watch, You'll probably end of being super late =D

Try not to worry about it because that will add extra stress that you don't need. Whatever happens (if your baby comes in 1 month) the dr's and hospitals are pretty much equipped the handle ANYTHING. So you and your baby will be in great hands.

  • Try not to worry about it, you can't change when the baby will come.

With DD my OB told me that she didn't expect me to go past 37 weeks because I am a nurse on a very busy floor and nurses tend to go early. I ended up being induced a little over 40 weeks. You can never predict when you will go into labor.

  • It is extremely unlikely that their premature births have anything to do with eachother and they will have no impact on your own delivery date either.  Premature births can happen to anyone---however, it's possible these women had some prexisiting medical or lifestyle conditions that led to a preterm birth (or, it could have been a total fluke). I would not worry about this at all. The most important thing you can do is to make sure you are delivering at a hospital that provides at least Level 2 NICU care to ease your mind.
  • Try not to worry about it. There could be a number of reasons they delivered early. I know many teachers that went well beyond their due dates.

  • Thanks girls -- I know that you can never tell, but I just don't want to be early and miss school! (That sounds ridiculous, I know.) But I don't have the ability to take off, so I guess that is my biggest worry. :(

Do you work for a private school? Public schools would have to offer at least FLMA as a state employee, so you can be off, just without pay.
