My friend just posted something on FBook about no TV before age 2, which I know about. When DS turned about a year and a half, we started letting him watch a show here and there. I was super sick with this pregnancy. Do you ever let little one watch TV, or am I a horrible parent???
Oh gosh we let DD watch some TV. She usually gets to see one Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episode a day or every other day. But I also have been known to let her watch a disney movie on the weekends too. I think its ok as long as its not all day everyday.
you are not a horrible parent!!! you have to do what will keep you sane and feeling good when you're sick or LO is driving you bonkers
i think the biggest thing is that when they zombie out they are not learning or getting anything out of it. my friend uses the TV as a babysitter and i don't think anything good can come from that.
DS loves a couple shows and actually asks for them sometimes! we let him watch maybe an hour total per day (not everyday) however, now that i'm getting close to the end of my pg, he definitly gets more because i'm too sore and tired to do too much more!
i've also read that when they sit and watch TV for so long they have to channel their energy somehow so they usually end up acting up more often because they've built it up. holds true to my friend who lets her kids watch WAY to much tv
I was pretty big on waiting until Liam was 2 for tv...then I got pregnant and was just about begging him to watch tv so I could lay down and be sick for 15 minutes. He still hasn't gotten into any shows but he's in love with the mighty machines truck dvds...I feel no guilt letting him watch a few minutes if I have to get something done.
The tv is always on in the background at our house. She asks for Elmo 1,000,000 times a day. If she sits down and gets into zombie mode, I turn it off, but other than that, I am fine with her watching.
DD doesn't watch TV mostly because of the layout of our house. The TV room is really out of the way and we don't have a TV in the living room, so we don't have a TV on in the background ever. She does play with the iPad though to look though pictures or play her kiddie games when I need to get something done and can't have her underfoot, so it's basically the same thing as watching TV.
If she starts to get obsessive about it, or throws a tantrum when we tell her time is up we take it away for a week.
We did no TV before 2 with DS. With DD, it was no TV before 1, and 99% of the time the only thing she sees are football games and occasionally Good Eats if we put it on while she's awake. We don't have cable and the only thing we watch is football. The rest of the time it's all DVDs or videos, and DS is only allowed to watch his movies when DD is napping.
Pretty much exactly the same as Scout. Around 18 months, we introduced Sesame Street to DD because we were all really sick and she was going stir crazy. We limit it to one episode a day, and she often sits on our lap for part of it so we talk about the letter of the day, sign songs, etc. She has become completely obsessed with Cookie Monster though and shouts "COOK" at the tv when she wants to watch it.
Man, I wish I could get the bean to watch a little TV. She doesn't care for it much. She'd rather be running around. I think "The Wiggles" has been the only thing to hold her attention for maybe two minutes straight but that I'll I got! I'm sure that will change soon enough, though.
I wouldn't feel guilty about letting your kid watch a little TV. English was my second language and I learned so much from TV cartoons and shows about behavior, language, culture, etc. I see TV as a really positive parenting ally as long as it's managed and used in moderation.
If DD is up while I am getting ready for work, she plays in her pnp with Bubble Guppies on. She doesn't pay full attention to the show but she does love to sing and dance with the Guppies!

Yep, my kid watches TV. He watches Sesame Street in the morning while I get a shower and his bfast ready. Sometimes, we will watch a movie or something during the day, especially if it's cold and snowy (we live in Upstate NY). He's perfectly well adjust and has hit most, if not all of his milestones (he's still not much of a talker). Don't stress about it. Most of us were watching TV when we were kids. We turned out *mostly* okay.
