Hysteroscopy and PCOS update

hi ladies, Thank you so much for your good luck wishes. Everything went fine and everything was "normal". While I am EXTREMELY thankful that everything is fine, I am also confused as to my IF issues. My RE does not think that I have PCOS after looking at my ovaries/follicles and the fact that my only real sign of PCOS is irregular menstruation. The labs are not back yet. I was lucky enough to have the chance drink the amazing glucose mixture (orange flavor *gag*) for my glucose challenge. He said that One follicle on my right side was maturing and he said it looked like I will ovulate from my right ovary this time around. This sort of surprised me because I assumed I have not been ovulating. He told me when to have fun times with my DH and if I don't get pregnant this cycle then we will start the Femara, Trigger & IUI in February. I am really excited about being proactive with this whole IF thing. I am very hopeful and so is my RE. I GOT THIS!!

Re: Hysteroscopy and PCOS update

  • Glad everything was normal! Quick question for you though - did you go in for a Hysteroscopy (usually requires anesthesia, and is considered minor surgery) or was it a Hysterosalpingogram, which is where they put dye into your uterus and fallopian tubes?

Glad you are ovulating, and I was misdiagnosed with PCOS too. It's hard not having concrete answers. Good luck to you and DH.

  • That's great! I'm in a similar position except I have endo. I thought I wasn't ovulating because of irregular periods. Turns out I WAS ovulating! I was having retrograde menses. It's weird but oddly kind of good news too! Hopefully you get your BFP in no time. The glucose test is torture!

WHAT?!? You get anesthesia with your hysteroscopy? I didn't. I had an easy time of it but still. I'm oddly kind of jealous.

Yeah! I can't imagine doing it without general anesthesia, I thought that was normal but maybe I'm wrong? My RE told me it was "minor surgery" and it was procedure to do it under anesthesia. It really did a number on me for the entire day too, it was not a piece of cake. I hope I'm not confusing everyone with the HSG (hysterosalpingogram) vs the hysteroscopy since they are different.

No, it was a hysteroscopy. I'm not sure why you would need anesthesia, unless they have to remove a polyp. My RE did it in his procedure room. The "dildo cam" was very small, about the size of a coffee straw. They put saline in and did a trans-vaginal u/s. It was mildly uncomfortable, like menstrual cramps. I would have welcome anesthesia though, ha! Although, I did enjoy him explaining everything and I was able to see what he was doing on a screen.

I know, righ!? It really wasn't bad, just felt like menstrual cramps, but I would have rather been asleep haha. He did explain everything to me while I saw it on a screen, which I enjoyed.

  • I think most RE's put you under in case they find something they can fix it then instead of having to do it again under general anesthesia. I have had 2 from 2 different REs and both put me under. Good luck on your cycle and have fun!

  • Oh, ok. That makes sense. I have already had a hystosonogram so the hysteroscopy was just procedure. They were pretty darn sure they wouldn't find anything.
