Will I want a Moby?

I know twins are hard to carry at the same time for long, but I'm wondering, if you've had twins, did you like your Moby? To wear tandem or separate. And, for that matter, even with single babies, was having a Moby worth it for the short while before you moved on to other wraps/slings/carriers?

I have a ring sling and an ergo with an infant insert ready to go so we can alternate carriers and/or have one for both DH and I to carry a baby apiece.  But I was reading the "Be Honest with Me" post below and hearing how much everyone loves their Moby's and wovens and now I'm wondering if I'd really like to have one for the early weeks.

Thoughts?

  • I love my Moby! And, more importantly, my 4 mnth old loves it! Everytime she goes in it, she falls asleep immediately. She's pretty chunky, but it is still comfortable to wear. For something more supportive and better for longer periods, I'm planning on upgrading to a Becco Gemini for the Spring once she is about 7 months. I think that I will still use the Moby for shorter times, though!

  • Woven wraps were my go to carrier with my older daughter.  I discovered them when she was 10 months old and used them throughout ny next pregnancy.

I got a Moby for DD2, even though I really loved my wovens.  I did use the Moby, but I also used my softest woven wrap.  I would use one for a week or so, then remember the other existed and try it out...Each time, I was surprised at how comfortable the other was...I loved both during the newborn period.  I probably stopped using the Moby when DD2 was about 4 months old...I bet it would still be really comfy, though...and super snuggly...

  • I personally wasn't a huge fan of the moby because I was always so confused by it. My LO grew too quick too.

  • I honestly don't think the Ergo is a great newborn choice - definitely save it for down the road but the newborn insert is cumbersome and many babies want to be legs out well before they are large enough to do so in the Ergo.  With twins, I can't imagine not having at least two carriers that will work well for small babies (think spit up and diaper leaks!).  The moby would be a good choice and your ring sling would work well.  If you are open to other ideas, my siggy link has some pros and cons of different options.  I think you will find a carrier an absolute must!
  • I would say yes. you can tandem nurse in it. I loved it and when theyre little tiny I would think its the best that you can have. IMHO.

  • I love my Moby and use it with my 16 pound 7 month old still. I think it would be great with twins because you can wrap both and tandem nurse it it. It's excellent for back support with no straps to dig in anywhere and the babies will feel very secure and safe inside it. Yes, it's a PITA to wrap and unwrap, but it's not overly difficult. I think it would be very useful for the first three months or so with twins.
  • I've never tried a woven but did not care for the Moby with one or with both babies (I have twins, too).  If you are really wanting one, I'd check out craigslist.  I recently wrote a post about wearing my twins at my blog (link in siggy).  I'd love to hear what ends up working for you!  Congrats on your LOs.
  • I never liked my Moby. By the time I got DD2 in it, she was fussing to get out. She really didn't like being carried so that she couldn't see out. I specifically remember taking her for a walk one day in the Moby and having to take her out and physically carry her because she was so upset. She would have been happier in a stroller.

I think it really depends on the child. I have an Ergo and am planning to buy a ring sling. In general, my kids prefer to be carried on my hip anyway. I figure a ring sling should take some of the weight off my arms at least.

Xoexpat is obviously the best person to give you advice, since she's the only one in this post to who actually has dealt with a Moby and twins!

However, since she didn't find it helpful with even one, I'll share a different perspective to take into consideration.

I had purchased a moby before giving birth, but they were highly recommended by my hospital.  We had to take a "before you go home" class at the hospital and there were twins who had just been born there (These boys were over 7lbs too!  Very impressive.)  The instructor showed us how to use the Moby, so maybe that's why it never seemed especially hard for me, and she also said it was the best carrier for twins, since you could put one in each side.

I used the Moby every day for the first 9 months.  It was perfect for putting on quickly and walking the dog when I got home from work.  We quit, not because my 19lber got too big, but because by July it was a little too warm. So it doesn't necessarily have a short lifespan.

  • I loved the sleepy wrap, it's made by the same company as the Boba, and not called that anymore. I only used it for the first 23 months, tho.

  • I loved my Moby. It was the first carrier I tried. My itty bitty loved it and we used it until she was about 9 months, although the majority of use was from 06 months. Then I switched to a Mei tai and a ring sling,
