Macrocephaly

We just left our 9 month well being check. DS is being sent to hospital for a scan of his head due to Macrocephaly. They said they may even have to sedate him. They said he is off the charts. Doctor was very vague about causes.. Is there anyone else dealing with this?? I'm kinda freaking out..

When DH was a baby he had a really large head. He was a preemie but his head was huge, and for a while doctor's thought he had water on the brain (one of the causes of macrocephaly, according to Wikipedia). It turned out he was fine though, he just has a largeish head for his frame. DD's was kind of large too, so I think it's just a structural thing.

this is a larger than average skull size right? It can be due to many causes but the worry is extra menegial fluid? I think thats right but have a hard time remembering all the info. My thoughts and prayers go out to you because I know how scary and stressfull a situation like that can be. Hang in there, my nephew had a HUGE head and he had lots of testing done, with the end result just being a big head (which at 2.5, he is slowly growing into)

So with the insurance company taking forever, we have to wait to have the scan until at least tomorrow. They said they want to try and "bundle him" first for the CT scan, but if that doesn't work they will have to sedate him which is totally freaking me out. (Sedate him by IV or through liquids)... When I look at him, his head totally seems in proportion with his body, but I guess going by the measurments and being off the charts, they are concerned. I just wish she wasn't so vague, and that we didn't have to wait so long to get this done.

I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers from all of you, that really makes me feel good. I'm so glad I came back on here and getting to know each of you a little better... this place really is wonderful since we are all going through some things together at the same time.... I will keep everyone updated...

sometimes the waiting is the worst, it just gives your mind so much time to imagine the worst. I am glad they will try to bundle him and see if he can be still long enough. Hopefully that will work! good luck today and damn all insurance companies and the crap they put us through!

Just wanted to update everyone. DS did great during his CT scan yesterday, was too busy flirting with all of the ladies in the room to even notice what was going on, so no need for sedation thank goodness! The doctor called last night and said all was clear, and no problems indicated, so I guess that means DS has a big head! I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers from you all, it really meant a lot and helped to keep me strong during this scare....
