A/S Timing

Hello everyone,

I had my regular OB appointment today and I had so many questions to ask, I forgot to ask a few.  The baby was measuring ahead at the NT scan so I guess they must have moved up my due date because the doctor kept on saying that I'm 18 weeks when I thought I was 17.  Anyways, my A/S is booked for next Wednesday so I guess I'll either be just over 18 weeks according to my LMP or right around 19 weeks based on baby's size, is that too early for an A/S?

    No. Most A/Ss are done between 18-22 weeks.

    Mine was done at 17 weeks & the sonographer was able to tell us the sex and check everything else without any issues.

    I had mine last week at 18 weeks 1 day, this is based on how big the baby measured at my first appointment. If they went off of my LMP I would have been 20 weeks. The office I went to does anatomy scans between 18-22 weeks, 18 weeks just happened to work best with my schedule.

    Mine is scheduled for this Thursday.  I'll be 18w3d.  Because of DH's work schedule we couldn't do it next week (when I'd be 19) and they were booked the following week.  The receptionist that made my appointment said 18 weeks is perfectly fine, but I'd have preferred it later.

    With DS I actually had my a/s at 17.5 weeks, and it was fine. This time I just had mine at 18.5 weeks. Good luck!

    Ok, I feel better about it now because even if I go by my LMP I'll be over 18 weeks.  My best friend waited until right at 20 weeks because she wanted it to be as developed as possible and the baby didn't cooperate anyways, so I guess you never know how it will work out anyways.

    I moved the A/S to Tuesday the 29th so I won't be so stressed about it being too early Big Smile

    I think your timing is good. My doctor likes to do them at 18 or 19 weeks, and actually doesn't like waiting too long just in case something is detected and they need to change your vitamins/meds, or do something to help the baby's development. I'm not a doctor, but I just went with this and had mine on Friday. It went really well, and we got all the measurements of our little guy we needed. We even got to see him in 3D since he wouldn't show off his profiile on the regular scan.

    Glad to hear of somebody else having it after 20 weeks!  I'm having mine at 21 and a bit - that's just how it worked out with scheduling.

    OP - as many folks have said, 18-22 is the range, so you're good!
