How would you wash this?

DD has a Bright Stars plush cow with rattles and rings hanging off each leg which she loves. Mr. Cow had an unfortunate spill onto the mall floor and now lives in a plastic bag because I don't know how to wash it. No instructions on the tag. The rattles are plastic with beads inside and I am not positive if they would hold up in the wash. I want to try and save it for her.

Has anyone had any experience washing a toy like this? Or would you garbage the cow?

  • Well, maybe it's a second time mom thing, but unless it was in a nasty puddle or w some trash, or laying there on the floor all day, I'd just wipe off the plastic parts and be done w it. There's really nothing on your avg mall floor that would hurt your baby. I think throwing it away is overkill.

  • You can mix a little laundry soap and water and wipe it down then wipe it again with plain water. That's what I do with Scout when he gets dirty.

ETA - I read spill as something got spilled on it, if it just fell on the floor I'd just wipe the teething ring part with a baby wipe and call it good.

No, I'm a ftm and I think along the same lines.

  • If you are considering trashing it, then at least try washing it and if it doesn't hold up you can trash it.

But, if it were me and found myself needing to wash a toy like this (I don't know that I would just because it fell on the floor...depends on how dirty it got,), I would probably just hand wash it in the sink.

  • Wash superficially, with a damp cloth and soap. Don't submerge.

  • I guess to clarify, it fell in the front door part where it's very dirty from boots and snow. One side is grey from dirt. If it falls apart, it's fine. Just wondering if anyone washed anything like it. Thanks.

I do this with DS's cloth and plastic combo toys. Usually a wipe down would be good enough for me especially the plastic parts where it usually parks in his mouth.

This is what I would do. I wouldn't throw the toy away.

  • My son is a spit-up king and always aims for plush toys. I've washed all types and the only thing that didn't make it through the wash was a crinkly baby paper toy and it took 4-5 washings to kill that. So I'd say throw it in.  If its plush you probably need to dry it to avoid any lingering dampness instead.  Anyway, I've had good luck with just washing and drying a lot of stuff.
