carseat question for a city living FT mom-to-be

in 2nd Trimester
DH and I live in Chicago, and although we both own cars, we tend to take public transit on the weekends for the most part.  My question is, can you easily install an infant carseat w/o the base in a cab?  Or do you need the base along w/ the carseat to be safe?  Sorry if this is a dumb question but I really have no idea how these things work.  TIA

    The infant seat is very easy to just strap in the car using the seatbelt. It will give you instructions on how to do it properly. (though i have to say I have not used a cab with one)

    Thanks!  Thats good to know...I'm not sure how much we'll be using public transit after she's here...but its a nice option to have!

    Not all infant seats can be installed safely with just a seat belt. Make sure to do your research regarding which ones are ok.

    We plan on baby-wearing as much as possible after he's here, but this brought up an interesting point. I don't think we'll use cabs any more than we do now, and will continue to use the CTA. We drive when we need to, and will use the car seat then, but I would imagine baby would just take the train with us when the need arose.

    My Graco 35 was easy to install using only the seatbelt, I used it when I went places with my mother several times.
