Natural Birth

Anyone do a Unassisted Birth?

Im thinking of doing one because all the midwifes are not covered by HMO and only PPO. I cant afford to get individual insurance just for me nor do i have $4,000 or more to throw out to a Midwife. I had a midwife before and it was free. It was different circumstances at that time.

Has anyone thought of it? Or has anyone actually done it? If you did tear who fixed the tear? I guess that is my only concern lol. My husband knows how to do CPR on infants and Adults. I would need to find out other information like filling out the apgar, birth cert, weigh and measure the baby, get stuff to clamp the cord. I may even just get a Doula only.

My old midwife told me she would be happy to help me with my 4th child if i cant find any other way to get a Midwife. I am not pregnant right now but i am looking for Midwifes near me. I had a hard time looking for one with my 3rd it took me months to find one that is why i am looking early now.

 Thanks!

  • I really hope this is MUD...

    if it isn't:

no offense but if you can't afford a MW perhaps you should rethink having a fourth child... which cost much more than $4k...

not to mention you still have to get prenatal care and I don't know any OB or MW who would go along with it... MWs are trained for this stuff--- your husband who knows CPR is not... and CPR isn't going to get you very far if you have a problem DURING labor and delivery... thus just seems overall seriously irresponsible for two people who aren't even remotely trained in birthing babies...

if your old MW offered to help, take it if it's that or this... at least then someone with experience will be there

  • I really, really do not think you should be having another child.
  • I don't think you will get much support here. If you are truly interested in an unassisted birth there is a UC board on Mothering.

I would never do UC but I can understand some peoples' reasoning for choosing that route. However I just can't get behind someone planning that ONLY because they can't afford a midwife. Why not save up and have a fourth child then? I could understand if you were already pregnant but why plan it this way?

  • I personally find UC irresponsible.

I also find planning to TTC when you can't afford health care irresponsible.

  • UC isn't for me, but I stand behind a mother's choice to have whatever birth she wants.

But I have a feeling this is MUD, so whatever.
