New York Babies

Could anyone recommend a hospital?

I literally just found that I was pregnant, and I am thrilled! However, I am completely new to everything. Has anyone had a great experience they would like to share? Just by looking around on the Internet it looks like either Lenox Hill or St Luke's Roosevelt would be nice, but I've had two friends with pretty bad experiences at Lenox Hill

  • Just my opinion but I've heard both wonderful and horror stories about every hospital in NYC.  I think it's more important to pick out a doctor you like.  Once you find out where he/she has privileges do your research and if there is anything that gives you pause, discuss it with him/her and go from there.  If, however, you have any special considerations e.g. concerned about NICU or a birthing center...that would definitely be something to consider and then I would probably focus on the hospital and finding a doctor that has privileges at that location.

  • Agree with PP. Find a doctor or a practice you like first.

I gave birth at Beth Israel because that's where my doctor delivers. At the time, I did not hear many reviews on this hospital. But I did the hospital tour, went to one of the classes they offer. I had a great experience there. The doctors, the nurses were awsome. The private rooms are updated (well, it's not the Ritz-Carlton, but comfortable and big).

  • Methodist hospital in Brooklyn NY is great- they have all equipment and experienced doctors for anything that could occur during your time there.
