Pregnant after 35

Food gifts for new parents (XP)

We had a few friends who also had their 1st child about the same time our daughter was born. Plus I met and have become friends with several other moms in my daughter's play group.  The wave of 2nd babies (in one case 4th) has arrived. Between now and when I am due at the end of July, we have 8 friends expecting new arrivals.

What I'm looking for are meal ideas to drop off for new parents. I know from experience that anything helps and I have a few ideas, but would love to hear from others. What did you make for others, receive for yourself, wish you had/would receive?

Re: Food gifts for new parents (XP)

  • Depending on the age of the first child something the kids will eat is helpful. After surgery I had someone brought over homemade chicken nuggets and Mac and cheese. It was delicious and I didn't need to find something different for the boys to eat. I also really like lasagna since it can easily be frozen if they have too many meals at one time.

  • I was definitely leaning toward freezable meals. I also like the mac n cheese/chicken nugget idea...I hadn't thought of bringing such a kid's meal, but the older siblings will be between 2 and 4 so definitely something to keep in mind.

  • I brought a lasagna to the family up the street and it was much appreciated and gladly eaten by both the parents and the kids. Pasta dishes are usually very family-friendly.

  • I have given several gifts of a gift certificate for gormet meals that they can order on-line.  I don't remember the website but you could probably google it.  DH stocked up our freezer this weekend with easy for him to make meals.  I would not have room for food that other people brought for the freezer and if it is not in a disposable dish, then they have the hastle of returning the dish.  A lot of my friends and family are very picky eaters and this gave them something that they would like and could use after the well wishing dish bringers stopped.

  • Something for breakfast (like muffins or breakfast burritos) would be nice.  I feel like people do a lot of dinner meals and breakfast gets forgotten.
