I had my first overnight away from my son last night due to work travel. DS usually wakes up 1-2 times per night, usually to eat. He is breastfed, so I am the one who always gets up with him in the MOTN. (I know, we could use pumped bottles and spread the responsiblity, but it's just not what we do). Anyway, he woke up twice, and both times was up for an hour! My hubby said he was wide awake after he ate and was being rocked and everytime he put him in his crib he freaked out. Normally, I feed him, lay him down awake and not a peep.
I am sure DS was just super duper confused about it all. Have you had a similar experience? Not a big deal, was just curious + wanted to share the story:)
Sarcasm, not a real question: Is it wrong that I am slightly glad it happened so that my hubby knows what it's like to be sleep deprived? Granted I am not up an hour with him each time, but still, I feel glad DH experienced it for once!
Re: eek! First overnight with Dad didn't go well
I BF, too, and do exactly the same thing. DS wakes up, I go get him, nurse him, and as soon as he unlatches I put him in his crib and within a minute or two he's back to sleep. I'm curious what will happen when I'm working overnight.
DS will be almost a year when I go back, but I don't plan on weaning. So who knows! Hopefully DS will be STTN by then. But DH is already asking what to do if DS wakes up hungry. We've done a lot of practice with a cup, but I just know it's not just the milk DS wakes up for. It's nursing specifically. Being held close and warm, etc. I think it will all work out, but I'm curious!
DH has also already admitted that he'll more than likely bring DS into our bed if the night isn't going well. Which is funny because we have never bed shared. But if it will make the night easier on everyone then I'm fine with it!
I have a friend who went back to work at 7 months and was still BFing. Her son just had no interest in milk while she was at work and nursed every 2 hours after she got home. He wasn't miserable all day, it was like he just knew it wasn't available and he'd have to wait. It's amazing how they adjust.
I think from now on she'll just come with me to kid care o.O...sigh
