Any mama's out there that use a Pilates Reformer? I would love to hear how you modified (if you had to) throughout your pregnancy. I currently do Pilates 3 times and week and I am starting to notice there are some moves that are not as easy to do. Thanks!
Re: Pilates Reformer while pregnant
I'm currently going to a studio 3-4x per week and just started modifying in the last couple weeks. I've had to modify the ab exercises the most, not doing a full situp, legs in tabletop when on my back rather than out to a 45 degree angle, any type of plank is now on my knees, and I usually add more springs when doing any standing abs like catfish, teaser, french twist, etc. My instructor said in the next few weeks I should add more springs when doing inner thigh squats as we are more susceptible to inner thigh injuries while pregnant.
Basically I'm being super conservative with the abs mostly though. I had diastasis with my first two and my abs have already started to separate again with this one which has been a bummer. I noticed certain moves in class were making it worse.
I didn't do this type of Pilates with my first two pregnancies and I feel completely different this time around, I'm hoping I can continue til the end. The instructors at my studio say that some women go through 38 weeks they just keep modifying, hoping I can do the same!
The instructors where you go should be able to help, although I've noticed some of mine are definitely more knowledgeable than others when it comes to prenatal Pilates
I did it until my due date with both of my pregnancies. I just altered as needed and as instructed by my teacher. I did lots of abs and did not have any separation issues. Some modifications included using the chair vs reformer, not doing anything on my stomach, limiting time spent on my back, doing lots of arm and leg work. Reformer is awesome I never had back issues and overdue with my son I was at Gymboree with my daughter playing getting on the floor etc. I credit everything to having a strong core.
